I have had a revelation recently regarding people who collect 1:6. They seemed to be easily divided into two catagories: Those who collect 1:6 because they love playing, modding, futzing their figs and those who collect 1:6 because they don't have the money or space for statues.

Which one are you?

kinda...

I collect some of them (Hot Toys) 'cos they look awesome, and to me, are must-haves in my collection. Plus some of these figures are not made into PFs, so these are the best options.

Not quite sure if I understand what you are asking. Why we collect them? Or what we do with them?

Are you a third option? What would you consider that to be?

How about:

I pose them once and leave them be.

Moved onto statues or (PF's)

Can't afford them anymore.

I have been more selective with what I buy.

I quit buying them all together.

I judge 1/6 figs by the same standards as a statue. They must look good first, then the rest.

The problem with 1/6 lines, especially SS SW is that they put out lots of product, making you think you gotta get 'em all, therefore making it harder to focus on the must-haves. So, basically I have to handpick everything going into my collection.

Well from what I have been observing around here lately if you don't think you fit into one of these categories either a) you don't collect 1:6 or b) you are fooling yourself. Because I guarantee you that you are either one or the other or one has dominance in your collecting philosophy. So no. More choices would just muddy it up.

For me, it's 1/6th all the way. Never understood the love for the PF or statues. Sure they look nice but it's the same pose, day in and day out. 1/6th, if you get tired of a pose, you change it. Kitbashing opens up a whole new realm to collecting. Also, in my opinion, the statues and such aren't worth the price.

Not enough options Marc.

Agreed. I chose the first option but felt slightly misrepresented in committing. Maybe that's the larger picture, but there are definitely niches in between.

- Those who collect full lines (for the most part) and are completists

- Those who choose quality over quantity and have small, focused collections

- Those who will buy a figure if it's of high quality no matter how much (or little) they care for the license

- Those who will only ever buy licensed figures and look at customs almost as abominations :)rolleyes:)

- Those who customize and kit bash their figures as best they can, never resting until it's perfect

Just off the top of my head, but it's kind of sounding like a survey rather than a poll. Hard to nail it down with one choice.

I like figures because I love posing them. With statues I get kind of bored of the same pose after a while, but with figures I have the option to switch it up every once in a while. With companies like Hot Toys the difference in quality between statues and figures is very minimum.

2 years ago I would have totally agreed but my opinion has changed greatly on that. Yes some statues are lame imo but for the most part I really find most PF's and busts amazing.

It wasn't until I got my first PF (Jason Voorhees) that I truly understood the work and detail behind them.
