Character, design, and onscreen role significance/depiction all factor into it. Obviously, Ultron fit all of those pretty nicely for me. :)

I just love that feeling of nostalgia when i buy a toy from my childhood or the the reaction i get when i people walk into my house and see my collection. All adults instantly become children when the see the toys :D I especially love the hot toys that actually look like mini human counterparts of the actors

Usually I go for figures that have personal value & character, figures who are sort of timeless like "Star Wars" Stormtrooper's or the Predator, and had an impact on me as a kid. Those guys are Icons. Then I go for design, I may not know much about the character OR he may not be as iconic as lets say "Darth Vader", but he still looks cool, example; Ironman Mk 43 or Whiplash Mk2. lastly is price lol I like getting good deals on these guys! But overall the figures have to be memorable for me to buy them, not jut a 1 and done character.

It's a mix of things for me. It's a mix of the actor, the character, and how the figure looks.

I love Sebastian Stan, so no matter what Winter Soldier was a mighty need.

I love Gamora and Zoe BUT the Gamora figure didn't do anything for me, so I passed. Previously I was leaning towards it but nah.

Vision is 100% because of how the character turned out in AoU.

It's about how the figure looks for me. The rest (screen time and actor and all that) is not a big deal for me. I look at each figure as piece of unique art. If it's something I like I buy it. Simple as that for me.

Combination of all factors. I don't buy figures simply because they look cool, nor do I buy figures simply because I like the character. For me it has to look great and be a character that I have some attachment to.

Excellent question. I believe it's a bunch of factors for me. First is the character. Did the character (whether though comics or the big screen) make an impact on me? For example, I did not care for Hawkeye. However, after seeing AOU, I definitely plan on buying him. Because I really enjoyed him in that movie. I love the conversation piece of it as well. I love figures that are immediate conversation starters. For example Hulkbuster. That is a figure you walk into a room and gets immediate attention. :)

My decision making goes like this, often in this order - 1) character I like; 2) great character & costume design (comic book relevance plays a huge factor here); and 3) Hot Toys execution & quality.
