Lonnie...I'm totally with you on this. I see a lot of pretty recent (post 80's) movies and the title mentions "all time." I'm thinking thru, and I just can't pick just 5. I'm an old movie lover myself. So, I'll go with the favorites of each era as well.....be back.

No matter what though, my favoritist movie of all time is Casablanca.

It's interesting that almost all of us can easily pick our "all time favorite" movie, but then have trouble picking the next 4!

Can't wait to see your picks Rumi!

I know a lot of you guys grew up in the 80's and 90's, but you really have to do yourself a favor and watch some movies made before 1977!!!! :monkey3 :D

...and good for those with at least one movie before 1969 on their list!!! :rock

See because of my Dads age I've seen lots of movies well before 1977. So thats why for me I have two of my top 5 from years before I was born. I could probably name several from that era that are in my tops list.

Yea, I used to watch old movies with my Grandma when I was little. One on my list is from 1934

I have many many movies that I love from the 30-70's... I just simply put my top 5 favorite. I own around a 1,000 dvds and I would guess that atleast 2/5 of them were made before '75.

I couldn't possibly name just five, but there are a few that come to mind:

LOTR and Star Wars of course - but beyond ...

1) Saving Private Ryan

2) The Bride of Frankenstein

3) Bridge on the River Kwai

4) Forrest Gump

5) To Kill a Mockingbird

6) King Kong (Original)

7) Braveheart

8) Patton

9) Apocalypse Now

10) The Godfather I and II

11) Platoon

12) Good Will Hunting

13) Shawshank Redemption

I'll Stop.

Good list! Several people have put Mockingbird on their list. I really wanted to, but there were just others I liked even more.

Man, I didn't think about most of those either!!! Especially "Little Big Man", "Good, Bad and Ugly", "Jeremiah Johnson", "Cuckoos Nest" and "Dirty Harry"! Some of those might actually make it into my list... this is just too hard to pick the top 5!

Ooo, another couple I forgot:

Zulu
Cromwell
Pit and the pendulum- I used to sit and watch these 3 with my dad, I loved them.

Also..
Edward Scissorhands
Practical Magic

I don't really have an 'all time favourite' cos my taste is diverse but I have many that I will watch over and over, the ones mentioned so far are but a few.
