When Is Enough, Enough !!

I was sitting in my collection room today admiring all that I have and became sad. I'm seriously running out of room to comfortably display my pieces without it getting clustered and cramped. There are still so many other things I want to buy and I'm sure the future holds even more awesome collectibles. I'm running out of space and will need to cut back, sell or stop collecting in general. Which is probably a good thing with our economy in the dumps =o( So I ask when/what would make you cut back or stop collecting all together .

I know how you feel and I love my stuff but sometimes I think it makes my life so complicated and cluttered. There is a saying at some point the stuff you own starts to own you. I feel like that sometimes. My tastes have changed over the years so I just start to get rid of the pieces I don't care about anymore. You can also just start to be more discriminating over what you buy.

i actually rotated a little today. put some SW figures away that i had on display for quite a while and brought out jedi luke. havent posed jedi luke for a loooong time. it was quite fun.

Enough is enough when someone really shames me out of buying this stuff. And I mean really really shames me. That or the death of either myself or someone close to me which would render it all meaningless.

Otherwise I don't know when enough will be enough. Theres always something I want. And as cool as I think the stuff I already have is I'm just addicted to getting new stuff.

You shouldn't let anyone shame you into shaping your collection according to their unsophisticated sensibilities. Where do I draw the line? I get the best versions of any character I can afford, so I find myself now buying PFs more than 1/6's these days. If there's a common theme running in your collection, group pieces by that. Refine your hunt. Ask yourself "can I live without it?" for each and every piece you own.

(To make things complicated, I don't think PFs/1:1s are necessarily better than 1/6 at all times - exception Old Ben Kenobi. Trev's portrait is simply better than the PF's.. IMO! So, pick wisely.)

I don't think I could store things away. If I spend the as much as these collectibles cost I want to see and enjoy them.

Yeah, I display and rotate but I have a habit of getting rid of anything I haven't used for a year so there have been several pieces of my collection that have recieved the axe this year.

That and the awesomeness that is Hot Toys has forced me to reconsider what I keep.

Just only buy what you REALLY want. I will quit sometime when i just feel i don't need anymore ^^^^. Maybe i'll move on to something else collecting-wise, I've been thinking of collecting money.

I don't mean other collectors shaming my collection with theirs I mean someone in my life knowingly or unknowingly making a really good argument as to why I shouldn't be spending my money on these things...which I shouldn't. At 26 I should be quitting this comfort zone I'm in - getting focussed on leaving home, getting a proper job, making moves towards setting up properly with my girlfriend etc. I'm just addicted to the 'thrill' of getting new toys.

i think that's called "growing up". it happens to the best of us. there's always something that snaps you into it.
worked out for me. it felt really good to be at a point where i could just get rid of the clutter and keep what's essential.
buy , display , keep whats cool , sell , buy , display, keep whats cool , sell.
this seems to be the formula that works for me.

Dev,if you still enjoy collecting toys then there's no reason to give it up.One of the pleasures of being an "adult" is being able to make your own choices.Age is not really a determining factor, by the way; I'm almost 50 and lack of funds is the only thing limiting my collection...PS

At some point you really have to just start selling off stuff that just doesnt mean as much to you anymore.

The hardest part for me was just getting over the sentimentality of selling something. Once you ditch that useless feeling, it really feels quite good getting un-cluttered and re-investing into something that makes you feel better.

Its was hard at first for me but trust me, you feel sooo much better afterwards.

Well, for me enough has come. The Indy PF will be my final high end collectible.
No more room and I need to save for my family's future.

For it's fitting to finish on a piece I have been waiting to be made for years.

Enough is never enough. Display and rotate and just keep telling yourself "some day I'll have the room to display it all."

Im in the same situation,i can fit in 1 or 2 more 12" figures...and i have 2 20" statues coming:(
