Last year I think there was only one of the exclusives that I was interested in - this year I'm getting all but the vinyl.

Give in. You know you want to.

Butcher is cool for the Dead collectors.

Strawberry Shortcake Cobra Commander :lol I hope that becomes the un-official name for him from now on. The variant thing isn't new I guess. Off the top of my head, I recall the Babysitter, Darla, and Lorne being offered in variant outfits too, but to waste Con Exclusives on them... I guess that's what most companies do for the Con though. It's just disappointing to see Sideshow and Hot Toys pulling from that old bag of cheap tricks.

Generally, variants just annoy me. If this Iron Man comes with lots of gun mountings to create War Machine, that's very cool, otherwise making a non movie related version out of a movie design is kinda :dunno If I had always been a huge comic fan of Iron Man, I'd probably love it though. Hot Toys says, "It'll cost us virtually nothing to make, but they'll pay big bucks for it all over again. Ha ha ha!"

Now Han & Luke, though variants of a sort, do represent very cool on-screen movie related outfits. The head sculpts look slightly new and very good. Hope they fixed the fat armor thing for them. Definitely getting these, and I won't even have to wait a year like for Vader.

Variants is ALL that con-exclusives have usually been. "Con-exclusive" and "Variant" are virtually interchangeable.

Question, if you buy this color rehashed IM, won't that encourage HT to make more cheap repaints and possibly devalue the original due to a much lower ES on the SDCC EX? It's like with the Dead babysitters, people just stopped buying them at the 4th variant, when they should have stopped on the 2nd. i think it hurt the line as well.

Get ready to be disappointed then. Its a Mark 3 repaint. That's it. It was specifically made for a store called "Silly Things" in HK and because it would be a pain in the ass for HT Collectors in the US to get it, SSC is bringing some over

No, because this isn't a widespread sale item, it isn't a retail item but a store exclusive that is being imported. Think of it like when Target had their Silver Centurian 6" figure and there was only one target in the world and Sideshow decided to help out collectors by importing it.
