With the arrival of Boromir today it got me thinking: Who had the best death in the LotR series. Personally for me, Boromir's was the best. He sacrificed himself to protect the hobbits and to redeem himself from his earlier temptation of the Ring.

I tried to pick either the most meaningful, awesome, or important deaths in the poll. I can only pick ten though so if your's insn't on there say so anyway. Sorry if there are any typos in the names because I won't be able to change them, but you know who it is supposed to be anyway though right?

wasn't that many deaths, at least of main characters we cared about. Boromir, Theoden are all i can think of. good guys anyway. doubt many cared when Wormtongue dies. Golum's death was sad but in a pitiful way.

Theoden's by far. The last scene between him and Eowyn is one of the most beautiful moments of the films in my opinion. I cared about him much more than even Boromir, and his death, for me, is moving beyond expression. So beautiful.

Couldn't agree more - "I know your face... Eowyn... my eyes darken..." - get a lump in the throat every time I watch it; one of the times when the continuity and script worked perfectly (ie going back to the scene in Edoras when he first came out of Saruman's "possession"...). Boromirs death is a very close second - again well scripted and beautifully acted..

I'm in complete agreement. Both died heroically, but in different ways. Boromir's was more tragic in a certain way, because he gave it up fighting single-handedly against overwhelming odds, saving the hobbits and regaining his honor. Théoden died a king, leading his army to victory on the field of battle. He had the misfortune of being killed by Snowmane, his own horse, ironically enough, but the final scene with Éowyn is definitely one of the most moving scenes in the entire film trilogy, right there with Boromir's death scene. :monkey2

i voted for the witch king...he gets killed by a woman....isnt the best death ??? i've been ''killed'' by women many times....

Boromir: "I would have followed you my brother, my captain, my king!"

Gets me every time. :monkey2

Well, according to the poll results so far, easily Boromir by a landslide!

I voted Theoden as it was the most dramatic and emotional for me. However, Gothmog's death was very satisfying.

I almost voted Theoden myself. He died a very cool death as well.

Gandalf. He fought the Balrog. That was freaking awesome!!

Great fight scene, though I don't think his death was anything to write home about...

The first scene of the Two Towers was by far the best scene in the trilogy. You actually get to see what happened to Gandalph after being dragged off the bridge. You can even decide for yourself if that's what truly happened or was that just Frodo's nightmare. Sweeet!

I appreciated the creativity of Saruman and Denethor's deaths, but for sheer emotion, I chose Boromir. It was the first time I cared about the character in any form. Didn't really care for him in the books, the cartoon, anything. But those moments where he appeared defeated, and just kept getting up to defend Pippin and Merry, even though he knew he was dead....that really got to me.

I also actually teared up when GTG said, "Fly you fools..." and dropped. Even though, intellectually, I knew he was coming back, it was still very sad and even scary to see the good old man dissappear into the blackness.

The Mouth Of Sauron died too abruptly.

And as much as I like the design for the WitchKing, part of me really wishes we had the flaming Crown from the book. That death could have been protracted a few more seconds as well.

Agreed. His redemption and death, in slow motion no less, were very emotional. :monkey2

Gandalf - the film was obviously weaker after his departure, and that is not anyone's fault; it HAD to be that way.

Theoden is my runner-up.
