Some artist are getting a free pass on lackluster work just because they have a fan base that thinks everything they do is the best in the industry. Maybe I'm different than most but my first and only consideration in buying a statue or figure is how does it look compared to the source material, not who sculpted it. Certainly all parties involved should get credit for their efforts, but I think a piece should be judged first on it's merits as a piece of art. A lot of people will jump on a thread and say a piece is great solely based on who sculpted it, without judging the work first. Personally I like to see things initially without knowing who sculpted it, but like I said, I'm obviously different from most.
BS. I judge a sculpt by its looks alone, and I don't care if it was sculpted
by Sir Slappy McSpanksalot, as long as the end result LOOKS good. Wanting
to know the sculptor's name is just neat information for we buyers, but rest
assured that if the sculpt was sub-par in quality, it would be noted here no
matter who sculpted it. Conversely if a new sculptor knocked one out of the
park it would also be noted. Having the sculptor (or sculptors) names just
provides history and provenance to the piece. Nothing more, nothing less.
