To the OP, I think more info is needed.
Where did the children buy the alien/robot from, and from whom? What did the seller look like? Male or female?
If they found it, where? a cave, an attic? A well or something? An old mine? Crashed spaceship?
What did the alien/robot look like? Was it polished metal, skinlike, scaled, furry? Big eyes, small eyes?
How small was it? As small as Gizmo, or more like Twiki?
When you say it did bad things, what do you mean? Did it kill people, or just cheat on it's taxes?
