Thought I should post this too:
i passed on all of these. all of the likenesses are terrible and they've turned into a colossal waste of $$. especially Hicks.
Hey Facebox... where do you get the flooring in your display pictures? I presume it is undergravel aquarium filters.
Dizzy
Thats sort of what I assumed this thread would be about given the title. Not that I have a problem with the marines.
no. the point is if i'm expected to pay big bucks for these now, then i shouldn't have to customize anything.I think you are TOTALLY wrong in my opinion! I have all of the marines that Hot Toys has made. I've had the heads repainted or recast for Hicks, Hudson, Apone, Drake and Vasquez and Ripley. I don't think they're a waste of money at all. The outfits, armor and accessories and weapons are near perfect. The heads are what needed adjusting. I am VERY happy with the Hot Toys ALIENS line so far. I also got the power loader with Ripley, and repainted her head too. I'm working on a custom Pvt. Frost, and Lt. Dietrich, and I've already made my own custom Bishop and Newt. All Hicks needed was Les Walker's awesome "spikey-haired" custom head, and he's fine. I'm getting mine from Les someday soon. "Colossal waste of $$"? No. I DON'T THINK SO!
no. the point is if i'm expected to pay big bucks for these now, then i shouldn't have to customize anything.
if i get a Hicks figure and it doesn't look like Biehn, then i just blew like $600+ on a generic military figure.
but, if these were $30 at Toys R Us, then i'd have nothing to complain about.
i'm getting the impression that you're trying a little too hard to justify all that money you spent.First off Toys R Us will never carry Hot Toys or Sideshow figures. They just cost too much to import from Japan. I'm sure Sideshow is paying a lot to import the ones they get from Hot Toys. It's just not going to happen where you can pick up a Hot Toys Hicks for $30.00 at TRU. Next, Hot Toys couldn't afford to pay for the rights to use accurate likenesses of the actors. The likenesses are "hidden" under bad paint jobs such as with Drake and Vasquez. So some of the heads from Hot Toys marines can be repainted to look more like the actors such as Vasquez, Ripley and Drake. Other ones benefit from custom heads like Hicks, and Apone. Since the Hot Toys heads don't look at all like the actors.
Yeah, I think we can all agree that in a "perfect world" a Hicks that DOES look like Michael Biehn would be great right out of the box. I missed my chance to pre-order Hicks, Vasquez, and Apone from www.alteregocomics.com for a measly $65.00 each! I'm still kicking myself for missing that one! But I got Vasquez and Apone on eBay for about $80 each a while back. I made my custom Hicks from the Hudson. Turned out great, and for MUCH less than $600. I'd never pay that much for ANY figure. That's almost a month's rent for me!
I've been a smart shopper for the most part with my marines not paying much more than what they started out for. My Hicks will finally be perfect once I get the "spikey-haired" custom head from Les Walker.
Oh yeah. You're not expected to pay big bucks, or buy them at all. After all that is YOUR choice to pay that much, or even buy any of them at all. We're all choosing to buy these figures, not being forced to buy them.
I know it would p**s many of you off but I really wish Hot toys would reissue Hicks, Vasquez and Apone. So many people came on too late to get those. And I'm too afraid to use ebay. I don't want them 2nd hand.
i'm getting the impression that you're trying a little too hard to justify all that money you spent.
the fact that you felt you had to customize these just proves that these are essentially over-priced generic military figures that you had to go and spend more money to turn into Aliens characters.
that would be an awesome idea... if these were $30. they're not.
it would be fine if they were $300... if they were perfect right out of the box. they're not.
so, yeah... i'm still gonna pass on these. they're just gonna keep getting crappier as the prices go up.
yeah $65 isn't too bad. i guess it would depend on how much you liked the movie. these aren't $65 anymore, though.I think there definetely worth there retail price without anything custom.
The armor alone is amazing in detail and everything that comes with them is beyond compare to anything else ever made for 1/6 aliens marines.
$65.00 for a fully geared up Hot toys aliens marine with weapons and even a head sculpt that looks like hicks with a new paint job. I would definetely buy it. Alot of people in the 1/6 community customize anyway so with that added benifet to me there perfect.
If you don't like em , don't buy em. If they don't have the rights to someones face theres not much they can do in regards to likeness.
With a little extra money and push though you can simply buy a head and get it painted by someone and have it looking amazing.
Hell , look at some of the photos on this board.
To me , for one of my favorite movies to be dedicated on my shelf for a little extra work and money is no problem.
Even if these were Military figures for $65.00 to me there still worth it. The attention to detail is astonoshing and very very accurate to the movies.
There not perfect out of the box no but .. is anything today ?.
btw. what's the ballpark on Dark Artist/Hurricane customs?
