Why aren't PS3 games in 1080p?

I guess it cuts down on their development costs. The only native 1080p game that I own is Metal Gear Solid 4 (and that wasn't even made by Sony).

Is that foreal? I gotta say though MGS4 is still the best looking game along with Uncharted tho

I might be wrong but i think wipeout is 1080p

Correction to my post: the only native 1080p games that I own are Wipeout HD and MGS 4. :lecture

Couldn't agree more. MGS 4 and the Uncharted games have some of the best current gen graphics. For MGS, I like the fact that Kojima future-proofs his games, in the sense that they never look dated, even if several years have passed.

GPU CPU

Of course there have been hardware revisions but the technology is 5-6 years old in comparison to PC. Frame rate would slow down

Yep... it's not that complicated. Development costs? Hardly.

High resolution takes a toll on the hardware. Lower res = better performance. The current gen systems are quite weak in comparison to what is possible today.

There are no development costs in rendering in 1080p compared to 720p

It's all the hardware capabilities. It's very easy for them to set it to a higher resolution, so if they could they would have it at a higher setting.

Many games even struggle to get 30fps at 720p.

That's one really good thing about the next console generation, there are so many really cheap and easy ways to improve graphics: full 1080p rendering (and 3D, since it would have to render two images for 3D), 60fps on every game, more anti-aliasing (for less jagged lines), improved lighting and texturing quality (more memory would allow for that).

And all of those things can be had with not very expensive hardware.

You're wrong... MGS4 is'nt full 1080p, in fact has a real wierd native resolution, but is closest a standard 720p (1280x720 ) than 1080p :lecture

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot = 1024x768 (2xAA, temporal)

Here you go a True list of all the native resolutions for all games (PS360):

https://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=46241

The reason, of NO 1080p is pretty simple: The 1080p, consumes too many hardware resources and the developers would have to sacrifice other technical aspects if they do that (and PS360 are very outdated hardware to date ).. and same scenario for 30fps to-60fps

And the following list is completely wrong dude..:slap :slap:slap
Here's a list of the games that are confirmed 1080p native:
https://wikibin.org/articles/list-of-full-hd-1080p-ps3-games.html

Because practically all of those games listed uses software scaling to 1080I/ 1080p .. and that is'nt Native resolution :lecture

The PS3 software scaling (Bioshock, MGS4, CODW at war for example) is basically the same than the 360 1080p hardware scaling (hana chip) does for all games, and in both cases is never native, of course

The truth is:
Just a very few games are native 1080p... but the sad thing, is that many games not even reach the standard natives 720p (1280x720p) for both consoles :/

Because the PS3 is not powerful enough to run games at 1080p...
or rather, the tradeoff of doing 1080p is so heinous that the vast majority of devs chose 720p as the happy medium. Same is true for the 360.

The hi-def generation didn't actually start yet, still waiting.
