What this person said is what I had heard as well...

"I've heard from industry insiders that "Firefly" was unofficially cancelled before the first episode ever made it to air because there was a new executive on board who wanted to have more time slots for "her shows", to mark her territory. Not only were the episodes purposefully aired out of order, the original pilot was re-shot in a slapstick comedy version to make it "more palatable" to the imagined audience.. which of course wasn't actually intended to work. tl;dr: According to people who would know, everything that could have been done to prevent the numbers from coming in, without being obvious about it, was done, because the show was intended to fail."

thats also what I heard.:goodpost:

I still wonder if it hadn't been cancelled it would still have the following it had today. I know people would still love it but they wouldn't fight as hard for it.

Cause Fox sucks.

This is pretty much how I feel. Can't stand Fox. They ruin ALMOST everything they touch....

On a side note, didn't Firefly start out on Friday nights to begin with? I honestly can't remember if it did, but I do remember it ended up there at one point, with John Doe. That said we all know about the performance of shows in the "Slot-o-Doom." (Both shows were canceled, John Doe still being at the top of my "what-if" list. RIP John. :monkey2

My opinion is that Fox never had much promise for the show, and gave up on it WAY too early. As much as I loved Dollhouse, Firefly was a much better show and if Dollhouse can make it two seasons, there's no reason why this couldn't have.

If I can't have a New Season of Firefly, because of some Ass Hat, then give me a sequel to Serenity.

Just in passing If any of you watch "Castle" they made reference to a place called Serenity a place that his on screen mother and daughter where going to for a weekend getaway in the Poconos.

Long Live the Browncoats

Airing the episodes out of order is enough to kill any show that tries to keep continuity, imo.

Do you guys remember the very short lived Clerks cartoon? The entire second episode was a parody of those "trapped in an elevator" flashback episodes that sitcoms like to play near the end their lifespans. It was hilarious because it kept referencing the first episode because that was the only episode that would have aired.

I say "would have" because ABC decided to air this flashback episode first. Virtually none of the jokes made sense because nobody had seen what was supposed to be the first episode.

Now, you could definitely question the wisdom of producing an episode like that when you're still trying to hook viewers, but it's a prime example of the network screwing a show by airing it out of order.

It's nice to see how much Nathan Fillion likes Firefly with all the nods he gives it on Castle.

The whole Firefly cancellation always seemed fishy. Even beyond the personal vendetta that Fox executive had, I don't think it would have survived anyway because of costs per show. Even if this show got decent ratings, it would have to be phenomenal, stratospheric type ratings in order to keep going because all the executives care about are profit margins. If a reality-type TV show only costs thousands to produce but makes millions in advertising dollars, then that's better for them to keep than a show that costs one million per episode and makes the same amount as the reality show.

____ Fox. ____ their executives. I hope they raise enough funds for Fillion to buy it, they throw it on a real station and the browncoats rise again.

LOVE Wonderfalls as well! Another show royally screwed by getting the deluxe "Fox" treatment of airing shows out of order and moving the nights around. I think they only ended up airing about 4 episodes.

I love how not once does this author or the person interiewed ever even mention the fact that it was put on Firday nights.

Even airing the episodes in order and with a consistant schedule would have made no difference if you put it in the death slot.

And then they went and did that with Dollhouse. So someone has something against Joss in that place. Why he keeps going back to them is beyond me.
