Is there a reason behind this?

I did a search and have found threads on various websites going back to 06 asking manufacturers to create one.

It seems a no brainer .... I mean sure it won't have the repeated business of Terminator but a single Escape from New York figure or even a premium format statue should sell well.

Does Kurt Russel not want to sign away his likeness?
...or is there problems with the license itself?

Since a McFarlane Movie Maniacs figure and a few comic book stories were made with both the movie license AND Kurt's likeness, I can't see this being the problem. He was even willing to voice Snake in a potential video game.

Anyone know ?

I don't know what the situation is these days, but I do know that back in the day the rights issues were a bit of a mess as far as who owned what specific rights with the original film (Escape from New York), and anything like that which is owned or partly owned by a number of parties can be a nightmare to negotiate.

Doesn't mean it can't be done, but it can be a beast to wrangle together, and such things do often tend to fall over late in the process, as all it takes is one party to not be happy or change their mind on terms to blow the whole thing out of the water, or best case scenario, start the process all over again.

On the other hand, the rights to Escape from L.A. should be much easier to attain (as the film was made for a major, and still operating, studio), which is again why McFarlane took that path way back in the day with the Snake Plissken movie maniac figure.

And it should also be noted that if you only wanted to make Snake, and wasn't concerned about supporting characters (that are probably way too niche to be financially viable to make anyway) then Snake wore his original EFNY outfit at the start of EFLA, so a license holder could still purchase the rights to EFLA and produce an ESNY outfitted Snake Plissken.

Regardless, I'd love to see a high quality Snake Plissken 1/6, 1/4, or premium format piece made at some point. In fact it has long been high in my top 5 most wanted characters list.

Well he just escaped from a prison in space to save the president's daughter so hopefully he will be available for figurines now.

In all seriousness I love Escape from New York and a Snake is one of my most wanted figures.

Snake Rocks....but can understand the delay in any production of a figure.

Hmmm it is strange, and annoying there's no Snake. But it's even more dismaying there's no Maggie...(gulp)

There's certainly a plethora of super characters in that movie, look great on the shelf!

great info thanks !

Yes, a 1/6 Snake Plisken would be the bomb. HT should put their energy into that, instead of rehashing' Predators, Iron Mens, RoboCops and such. Hello! We've had those already!

A hot toys snake would be epic!!! I dont care what movie or what costume, just that figure alone would be so iconic. I do hope Hot Toys can get the license, but idk who owns it, the movies were done by different studios i think

Kurt Russel is a boss!

So its settled :D

If Escape from LA is easier from a license perspective, I'm happy with that. I'd be happy with 'original' or 'black leather' option. Both look totally badass.

So how do we really bother Hot Toys for a 1/6 and Sideshow for a 1/4 PF ? :D

There was a figure made of snake. It still shows up on e**y at times. Not to bad a figure.
