Remakes and reboots....:monkey4

Alien, Predator, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare of Elm Street, Terminato, Hellraiser ect ect ect................

Will we ever see another new fresh idea that spawns a great movie franchise?

Remakes and reboots are fine by me, but I am desperate for something new.

I want a new sci-fi franchise, and new action hero franshise and more than anything a new horror icon!!!

Ugh.....

Terminato sounds new, Crazy robot Tomatoes! :rotfl
But seriously, I think studios just want a quick buck most of the time. I am sure there are alot of great ideas out there, but is anyone willing to put up the cash to get them made?

We had Hatchet, the Descent, High Tension, and a few other creative new horror movies over the last few years that gained some attention. So, there is new stuff being made, it just gets overshadowed by crap like Texas Chainsaw and Halloween remakes. I'm hoping that "Let the Right One In" particularly will promote some interest in complex, moody, serious horror over the predictable, remade crap that gets churned out by "the studios."

that book and movie were so freaking awesome.

No. We will only become more cynical and particular with age. When Starwars is remade, we'll all suffer heart attacks and brain aneurysms. Eventually, nothing will new will excite our dull and aging senses. We'll be flipping off the delivery boy as he speeds off in his hover-car when he delivers us cloned-sheep pizza instead of good old fashioned pepperoni. We're screwed. :duh

:monkey3:lol

The 80s really did produce a lot of great sci-fi and horror franchises. I guess right now we live in the time of the superhero/comic-book movie. Besides the Superman and Batman movies, there really weren't any others back then. At least any good ones.

And I'm all for a Terminato movie.

Yeah, I guess the 80's were something of a golden age of greatness. I feel old :(

Terminato.....Half robot....Half tomato....100% killing machine! :rock

Yeah, but I feel lucky that I was old enough to see all those movies in the theater back then. Nothing beats that.

Harry Potter, Nolan Batman, new Trek, Twilight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Marvel movies - there are great new franchises born every day. Heck, even Fast & the Furious and High School musical are franchises that someone loves.

It does seem that horror and hard sci-fi action aren't really out there though. Riddick was an attempt; Matrix squandered it's possibilities; Resident Evil has gotten progressively worse. 28 Days maybe?

Yeah, Potter and Pirates :rock

Batman and Trek are old ideas though, reboots.

Horror and sci-fi are hurting.

I agree about Riddick, Matrix and RE.

I think the thing that's missing from the sci-fi and horror movies today is a great character. Where is the next Freddy, Jason, Alien, Predator, ect. that's new and original? I think that's why Harry Potter, Pirates and a few others have succeeded.

The movie industry may have it hard these days as far as serious original content goes, but I think video games has it much worse. Price of entry is many times the price of a movie ticket, and franchises are really choking the crap out of this relatively young medium.

One thing that contemporary cinema has been much more successful with than in the 80's is superhero movies. Sure, there are some duds, but no one is going to argue that even the duds are better than most of the stuff from the 80's with the exception of Superman.
