WIP - Custom Leonidas from 300

Thanks again for all the great comments. Coming from you guys it is a big shot in the arm for my confidence.

figuremasterles- I was very lucky and scored a Hot Toys PMC figure only from Ebay, no accesories, only the clothes he came with and the head as well. I now have a bearded Bale lookalike head out of the deal

This will most likely be the last update, hopefully the next lot of photo's will be the completed figure. I am happy with the progress so far.

In the last couple of days I have affixed the shin guards, made the necklace, and made a custom pair of feet and sandals for him to stand on.

1) After fixing and touch up painting the shin guards I fitted them on to him and made some custom leather strappings.

2) Put the necklace on. This wasn't hard, just took the amulet off the Neca and put it onto some wire string.

3) I looked at a few options for the feet, I looked at galictiboy's suggestion of using the Neca feet but decided that I didn't want to copy him. I had some 1/6 ignite greek sandals I was going to put on the Hot Toys feet, but once on they looked way to small and out of place.

Finally I settled on making my own and set about finding some larger feet. Digging through my old 21st Century SWAT collection I decided that these feet were the perfect size. After adapting the Hot Toys pins to the 21st Century feet I set about making some sandals that were a closer look to the original Neca feet. Vey happy with how these turned out.

Just the cape to complete and he should be done!

Nice work on the feet... nice to have material for the shoes than completely sculpted.

And Les, if you do an eBay search for "Hot Toys Muscular" you can usually find listing for loose ones. Although be sure to look in toys, or you'll get a lot of gay interest photos

I think I got mine for around $40 shipped. And get the Drake or a similarly complected body, I made the mistake of buying the Rambo III first and it is way too dark to work.

Thanks for your patience and I know you have been anticipating the completion of this figure. As you would know from my last update the final stage was his cape.

This actually turned out to be the hardest part of the figure for me. I went through about 4 or 5 different materials searching for the right colour and texture.

Now he is complete and I am more than happy with the result.

I won't post the pictures here as I think that this figure deserves his own thread without the build stage images. I am going to start another thread with images of completed Leonidas as soon as I upload the images.

This is my other favorite recent custom!

I am just floored by this one! it is a perfect example of effective and efficient custom figure art. Takes existing materials, adds to them, reproduces almost exactly what is desired in the way of a finished figure, that looks like a compatible company produced figure as well, ie., a "dream figure" for one that is not out there like this, and makes it real! Perfect execution. Just brilliant. Clean, dead on. You made it look easy, even though I doubt it was. Needs some sweat and grime, but on these HT rubber bodies, that may not be so easy to accomplish.
Whatever the case, I'll be glad to say all this again in a finished figure thread.

Kudos for what I feel is a custom masterpiece.

Like the other members of this board I enjoy showing off my customs. While we build these figures for ourselves and our own collections, in realilty we are quite often building them for everyone to enjoy.

I have enjoyed sharing this project with you all and hope you enjoy the finished project.
