this thread is starting to feel like john carter from mars

It feels like a religious and/or politics debate the more that I read this thread. Everyone has their points and some are very valid, but you can tell it's getting a little heated on certain points.

I'm sure they are VERY impressive.

Listen to who? Me? I didn't say whether I can afford it or not, that's irrelevant, my point is, for the average collector this is out of their price range.

And, I said for myself, I can't justify the price. I don't feel I'd be getting my money's worth at $2,000, $1,000? Sure, why not. $2,000? Nope.

Well, according to all theories and some predictions, this will be in the $1500.00 price range in 2-3 years.

Some can wait, but why wait if you dont care about depreciation.

Just do to the nature of the high price point, and it being "less affordable to most", it is very attractive to some.

Again no one is forcing you to spend your money on this, you can just save your money for the next big Batman, Cap or WW if you like.

To tell you the truth Wolive is not even my fav. marvel character, but damn... this looks good next to a Hulk! A must have I say.... the costs are up to you guys!

Let me just get the first one a year ahead of everyone else.. all fine with me! :yess: The sheep will follow, just as did with the 1:2! Proof is in the other thread guys!

Ok you three big guns will not get it.... now.... (Greatwall, Chirs, Iron)

But once I put up pics and the price is more reasonable you may change your mind. :lecture

Thanks a lot guys!

I just bought:

Planet Hulk (dammit now I might have to buy that diorama after I read it lol)

World War Hulk

Civil War

and the hardcover,

Fear Itself.

Now what should I read first? lol hehe

No kidding. The haughty tone and veiled insults set by some seem highly unnecessary. It's a pretty easy decision if you fully support the $2,000 price tag and want more open editions in the future, support this product and buy it. I'm sure the product and price tag speaks for itself without the massive cheerleading.

Others may be more hesitant for their own reasons (fear of QC problems due to past experiences with 1:2 scale pieces, waiting for in hand pics, space constraints, fabric parts, open ES, unnumbered base, high price tag without light up function, exclusion of alternate heads, availability years down the line.)

Whatever the reasons, there is no need to try to shove your viewpoint on someone else, namecall or act superior by calling them sheep etc. :cuckoo:

so does anyone know why retailers don't have the usual 5-10% discount on this and Maul like they have with Iron Man and Neytiri? That's another stupid thing that doesn't make sense to me, as to why SS is doing that. I still want this, just refuse to pay full price. I've already accepted the fact that we will never get any extra heads with this.

Hmm, interesting I'll check with my local retailer. I'm sure it will be cheaper down the line just like the IM 1:2 so maybe wait a bit.

Ok fuzzy, it was just a term used before. It was not meant to offend.
Lets call them, those who hesitate, those who cannot afford, those who fear, those without room, those who just will wait till its affordable, those who see my pics and decide they just cant take it anymore and have to have one! :wave

Anyways, there are always two sides. I only think that this line has much potential, and if we dont support it, we will have a hard time seeing future products in years to come!

Come on Fuzz, you would appreciate a huge Hulk from SS! I know it!

They will only go down once there are a few left over and not sold. I highly doubt they will discount them right away, only if they sit around in inventory and no one buys them.

I would love a full Hulk bro, and price points were never any problems for me just selectivity since I gear my collection towards uniform scale displays.

I'm just unwilling to support open editions as I think it's detrimental for the future of the line AND the hobby. I feel having closed editions will make Sideshow produce a greater variety of costumes for each Marvel character since they sell out and Sideshow will produce another. For instance, there's no way there will be a fully sculpted/brown suit/x-force suit wolverine if they leave this open for years since they won't want to compete with their own product (even is some fans may buy both). Think about it, if the Spiderman PF was open edition, there would not be a Spiderman comiquette.

But like I said I may still get this down the line for way cheaper. Still undecided.

You are right about the open edition and other color/options of the same sculpt. I very much doubt now we will see another Wolverine. My guess is that all Avengers will be made eventually.
Unfortunately Hulk being so big will command an even higher price point, so you may as well save your money if you like.
There are so many collectables yet to come, so you have options. For me Flex option and $160.00 a month is a very affordable option to obtain this statue. Closed ES a plus yes, but what are we to do? It was a decision already made and there is nothing we can do to change their minds.

To me as long as Open Editions don't sell better than Closed Editions, they may rethink their stance on them. So holding off buying may actually be beneficial since there is no hurry to pick Wolvie up as he'll be available for years.

Sideshow seems to be experimenting with their LSF line and if they see Open Editions doing even close to well, they may extend this philosophy to other products.

It's strange to me to deviate from a winning formula since their Limited availability Closed Edition model is what made them so popular up to this point.

I understand them wanting to cut into the secondary market action, but they have to understand that reputation is extremely important in keeping people buying ultra high priced mass produced collectibles, so collectibles holding and rising in value promotes higher sales in the future, and consequently people willing to spend more on their products as long as it's not open edition.

Furthermore, the selling out fast is one of the reasons people jump on some of their products which they wouldn't otherwise purchase.

You have a point. However, they are a very reputable company, or I would not have been so eager to jump on this. I doubt they will let me down.
I would love to discuss this with the SS crew when I see them next in SDCC in person. I understand why they are doing it, and it is a pattern not too popular with the collectors, but there is a reason behind this or they would not be doing it.

Fuzzy, whatever happens in the future is determined by what we do today. I like my 1/4 limited ES but dont mind my 1/2 not having it, as I dont think I want to sell them anytime soon. Your options are plenty, I hope you make the best choices.

That would be great if you addressed Open Editions with the SDCC crew. As for reputation, I agree their rep (barring a few QC tarnishes) has been solid up to this point but that's also due to their limited edition philosophy which keeps their cycle of products new and refreshed. Could you also address the numbering of the bases or producing certificates of authenticity, since that's one of the ways to stop recasts which their customer base wants to avoid especially since all their production is in China.

SDCC is just right around the corner.
We shall see what is the plan

I was originally going to pass on this but it's really starting to grow on me. I'll most likely place my order next month. I hate that the NRD is $400 though. If it wasn't for that I definitely would of ordered him already.
