I finally saw this film the other day and enjoyed it. I think it's DCEU's best and strongest so far. I can see why it scored high on RT. This is the movie Man of Steel should have been. I was never a Wonder Woman fan, but this film put her even with Superman for me. Well here's the thing. I have always loved Superman since I was a kid. I like the feeling of hope he gives, the light in darkness, a do gooder, someone to look up to and get behind. When 'Man of Steel' first previewed I was so psyched. A new film and actor for Superman. While I enjoyed the film, it was average for me. It was gloomy. I haven't been sold on this version of Superman yet. Not too keen on his depiction in BvS either. Hopefully he follows WW's path to greatness in Justice League.
So back to WW. Gal Gadot is fantastic in the, oh wait, wonderful in the role. The way she plays Diana reminds me of Clark Kent, funny and sometimes clumsy. But she's never weak in her alter ego. She was like a fish out of water exploring a new world, like Steve Rogers when thawed out in present day. Also I like the scene when she went ahead of the group into the village and was pummeling though the buildings with her shield. She reminded me of a Super Captain America. Speaking of which the recruiting of those soldiers reminded me of the Howling Commandos.
Also I like the bright atmosphere of the film, Paradise Island etc. The chemistry between Diana and Steve, just enough without becoming a love story. It got dark toward the end, but I fgure it fits since Ares was looming. But then when Diana gained the upperhand, her tiara was glowing then her whole body, like the light the end of the tunnel, a beacon of hope. And how she could have killed Dr. Poison, but didn't. Then at the end the sun started to come up, and even the German soldiers were smiling. They were happy.
Another thing I liked is when she didn't have her sword or shield at the end, only the lasso. hy did I like that? Because the WW I am use to didn't have a sword or shield.
It funny how this one film turned Wonder Woman into the new "Superman". At least for me at this moment anyway. Maybe Patty Jenkins should direct the Superman films.
