I just picked up an issue of Planet Hulk and flipped through it at Waldenbooks the other day. I don't know how current their issues are but it was the one where the Hulk gets everyone in the ring to shake hands after attacking them then he requests a queen. It was pretty cool! (Minus the queen bit, a little too "Conan" for me.)

It reminded me of the original Secret Wars miniseries and Byrne's run on the Fantastic Four (there was also an episode of the He-Man cartoon that I really liked that was pretty close to this story :D). I didn't know Marvel did cool stories like that anymore. :) I just might have to pick up the TPB of this when its over.

EDIT: Just saw that John Romita Jr. will be illustrating the World War Hulk series. Wow, I just may be a fan of this new direction they're taking the green giant!

I always hated Romita Jr. I don't know why his work is so admired....its close but no cigar to his fathers. Personally I would rather they use David Finch, Marc Silvestri or my personal favorite Hulk artist Mike Delgado Jr. That would have been awesome....

Pay attention to JR Jr.'s most recent stuff, like the Eternals series written by Neil Gaiman. Reminds me a lot of Frank Miller. :rock It's gritty, and visually he can tell a hell of a tale.

Sure, it doesn't look like something from, say, your everyday Image artist, and it lacks the perfect purity of Turner's outstanding work. But JR's unique storytelling qualities and his ability to draw emotion from the characters he illustrates more than make up for the lack of bombastic art with which we're familiar. It's substance over form, Tarantino instead of Bay. I dig it.

Great post, Monk. JRJR is my favorite artist working today. He does have some Miller moments, as well as some of Kirby (especially on his Thor run and Eternals mini). He's the main reason I can't wait to read WWH.

hey where can i find the Planet Hulk TPB???

I'm not sure. Do they have one yet?

I think that there's still a short Planet Hulk storyline left before they move him back to Earth. Something has to happen to get him to leave the life he has on his new world, and he still has the Spikes to deal with.

Oops. Have I said too much?

"I can say things will be very different for Hulk post-'WWH.' As for his power level, he’ll be more powerful than ever upon his return. He’ll be able to take just about anyone in the Marvel U. down."

-- Mark Paniccia,Marvel's Senior Editor.

Cover # 109......

i'll quote a guy from the comic forum:

''You can tell this story's not gonna end with a bunch of cops and firemen tackling Hulk and making him cry because he caused some property damage. ''

So I NEED to read this, should I get Planet Hulk first? Any thing I should read before this to catch up?
