Would re-issuing a limited edition figure bother you? Talky Tina does me.

Hi I have the first edition of the twilight zone Talky Tina limited to 1000 pieces worldwide. Now they released a non-limited second edition of her which looks exactly like the first. Kinda bugs me. Does stuff like this bother you guys? I mean its not an updated version either from what I can tell cept its not numbered.

I do love the thing. Evil dolls are awesome. But it still kinda bugs me.

EDIT

Not really, I can see why it could though. Given the obvious value reduction further down the line if it isn't as rare as you initially thought.

Yes it does. I sold mine when it was announced. I will rebuy it for much less later on. Basically the company lied. This is not a new version. Not even a 2.0. It is a cash-grab. This practice has made me limit my collecting.

If I had missed out on one and wanted it I would be very happy, If I bought quickly it expecting to have a true limited edition item it wouldn't make me happy ..... And the 3rd perspective that of the seller (which I fall under) I have a LE that I have posted on Ebay (It's the lowest price Tina listed but it's not $140).... So in this situation I like even less.

SHEESH . . .

Like anyone within this forum buys a figure or whatever solely to have it increase in value for profitability/resale?

I can understand why it would bother someone, it kinda nags on me and what I think is fair, but overall I don't care too much. I buy the stuff I buy for me and I don't plan on selling it unless I have to. It's nice to know the things I buy are worth money, at least what I paid for them, but this is not an investment in my future finances so in the end I don't care that much.

Monetary value doesn't bother me. But things seem less cool when everybody owns one or easily obtain one.

I love how people still try to invest monetary value in collectible toys. When I was a kid they made enough for everybody to go around. There was none of this "Limited Edition" "Exclusive Edition" crap. Just make the editions open-ended so everyone can get one without paying outrageous prices for a fricking doll, er... action figure.

Hold up. OP said nothing about money or having made the purchase as an investment. The focus was purely on its value as a LE collectible.

Some people like the idea of having something unique or limited. Now it seems OP has something that is technically limited re: its ES, but is now being sold far more liberally in an open ES run.

I don't see why some people have a problem with others wanting to have something kind of exclusive :dunno

Completely agree.
Especially with a piece like this were they are numbered and a low ES.
They were promoted as a limited run. The company should have changed something about this new run. In the end it doesn't bode well for how some collectors may view this company.

They were probably referencing me with the reselling thing, But I didn't buy it to make some great profit because it was a limited edition... No matter what a re-issue does cheapen the exclusivity of it as well as the money value and I personally do like to feel like I have something that not everybody could get.

I own a Talky Tina, but I really could care less about the # of units sold. Well, maybe it's "special" if it's a unique item, but 1000 or 10.000, is that really different?
But it's probably because I never had to resell anything, & never collected with that goal.

(what I care about is that mine came with the key broken with the pin stuck inside - had to glue another pin on it, lucky that the key has no purpose)

The revised releases of the HT Scar Predator and HT City Hunter Predators can be seen as reissues of limited figures, and they have me a bit annoyed, not a big deal though since I paid below retail for all my Preds. But I have to admit the prospect of revised releases of Blade or the Colonial Marines would make me more then happy (even though I own all the HT Colonial Marines). So I could only see a reissue of something that was limited only being an issue if you paid more then retail for the first release. Something that you just have to accept with this hobby.

I do have a bit of a problem with that sort of thing, when the item in question was specifically advertised as a limited edition, numbered collectible.

Something like, I dunno, a Hot Toys figure? No. I don't believe they ever advertised the AVP Preds or Colonial Marines like that. And certainly the new Scar and City Predator are a completely different issue anyway, since they're not the same figures as the originals.

It doesn't matter whether you bought it as an investment or just get a kick out of something you own being "limited" - and there's nothing wrong with doing either, when you get right down to it. The problem I have is when a company does that sort of thing, they're lying - it's false advertising.

It's clearly unethical, as far as I'm concerned, though I'm not above taking advantage of the situation, if it suited me (so far it has not, unless you consider reissue G1 Transformers and what not the same sort of thing).

If a figure was advertised as limited, you are more likely to PO and pay more than retail to obtain one.

If the figure is not limited, you are less likely to PO, wait for reviews, and pay less than retail when you are ready to buy.

I have a problem when you end up paying say 1200 for a HT tumbler because it was valued as such due to it's limited edition, to later find out you could of bought one at retail or less than retail. This didn't happen to me, but I would be pretty pissed off if I overpaid 800 dollars for something "exclusive"...

This sums up my biggest problem... But like I said had I missed out I'd be happy with a re release, But they really should change something about it to set it apart.
