Would you like a 1/6 figure of yourself

Ive seen a few of those sculpts in person before. They look really weird; somewhat faded and pixelated, which is only exasperated by a way too noticeable texture which feels like a mix between sandpaper and marzipan. If they could make the sculpts smooth to the touch I think it would help a lot.

As the only guy on the thread with a figure of himself, and the one who took all the silly photos on the previous page, I feel like I am obliged to speak up now :lol

Narcissistic? It depends on why you got it and what you do with it, really. I first used Thatsmyface when my dad had cancer. We got him a figure of himself as Superman as a message to say, 'Come on, dad.' He collects figures. He loves it. People get them as novelty gifts for buck's nights and things like that (all their friends as superheroes, or something). Mine is me as a crusader because I spent four years of my life doing a thesis on the First Crusade and travelling around to all these crusader locations. I think it's important to get one that 'has meaning' or commemorates something.

Creepy? It would probably somehow be creepier if it was the only figure I had. Some might say that collecting sixth scale figures is creepy anyway :p (and pshaw to them). My real name is Adrian, and I bought a City Hunter Predator pretty much just for the 'Adrian vs Predator' gag I could make with it on Facebook. If you buy one and have a sense of fun and are clearly not serious with it, people will recognise it for what it is.

We get collectibles because they are like the dream toys we wish we had as kids. And wouldn't you have loved an action figure of yourself as a kid?

The heads are 3D printed so the comment about them looking 'frosted' is accurate. You are not going to get a Hot Toys quality face sculpt. Still, the amount of detail is surprising and impressive. You notice the frosting if your eyes are within about 30 cms. Beyond that it looks fine, and it sits next to my other sixth scales quite nicely. The head feels a little like porcelain and the 'frosting' does protect it from bumps and scratches.

I suppose in the end it comes down to 'why would you buy it?' To make a joke, to mark an occasion, to help someone through troubled times ... all are good reasons. If anything, I tend to be a person who has a touch of self loathing, but dammit, looking at this figure makes me feel good, because every time I see it I think, 'Man, nine year old me would think that was awesome, and give me a high five.' Self loathing requires being a bit dark and seriousness, right? A figure like this is so innately silly that you just can't feel dark and serious looking at it. It champions the absurd and the ridiculous.

There's a little idealised facsimile of you, hanging around with little plastic Bruce Wayne and little plastic Tony Stark. It's fun!

If I saw someone had a figure like this I wouldn't necessarily think they were a narcissist, especially if they had a collection of similar figures anyway. I'd assume they had a sense of fun and didn't take themselves too seriously.

Most people who have one of these figures probably had it bought for them by someone else. If you buy one for yourself, you don't buy it because you plan to make a shrine to yourself in the corner. You buy it because you plan to make silly photos of your figure getting killed by a Predator figure.

I'm going to resurrect this dead thread just to show what happened when I made a figure of myself. The head is from That's My Face and the body is an Ignite Knight of Outremer II (and man, that was hard to find). To get the 'jokes' you have to know that my thesis was on the First Crusade and I volunteer on community radio. Enjoy.

I got a kick out of these pics! Very, very funny. I majored in something useful as well (European History), so I can relate. :lol
