This debate comes up once in a while... so let's see: would you really rather SS announces their yearly SW 12" output in advance? Or do you like the guessing game each month?

Yearly. Because while the suspense can be fun at times, it's ultimately unnecessary and can be annoying.

However, I would cap that by also suggesting that SSC either not show full prototype pics until they get at least one figure painted by the factory or change their prototype painting techniques to be more accurate to what the factory can actually pull off (I'm looking squarely at you, Anakin and Obi-Wan).

I'd probably prefer yearly, but then the sucky part is you have to wait a whole 'nother year to find out what's next.

Yearly, if they can give a deffinate time frame of when they plan on putting things up for preorder, and when they plan on putting them up for sale, not nessecarily exact date but at least month or quarter in the year. IT'd help a great deal i think with planning your purchases. So many folks are cancelling previous pre orders to prepare for new ones, if they had knew ahead of time maybe they could have saved themselves the trouble and sideshow too.

There would still be excitement in seeing the initial preview pics and for the PPO announcements.

Regardless of the results of this poll, you do realize that we can't announce what's coming next for a variety of reasons, right? Not the least of which, things change at the last minute ALL the time (unforseen production difficulties, licensor requests, cost, market shifts, etc etc etc).

One of the things we take the most pride in at Sideshow is being super-adaptable... something that I truly believe sets us apart from other collectible companies. By announcing a release schedule, this would severely hamper our ability to adapt on the fly and keep up with the changes in the market!

So what you really have to ask yourselves is this: would you like to have a production schedule released, then find out that a couple of your MOST favorite items from the list have been cut, or delayed indefinitely, due to the above-mentioned factors? Isn't it better to see no evil, hear no evil, so that you're not filled with regret at what is impossible? I think so, but then, I've always been impulsive, and I do love surprises! :duff

Don't worry, Dusty, this wasn't meant as a petition. Just curious how people felt. Obviously things change, prototypes are held up, etc. The change with Kit from being an SDCC exclusive is a perfect example.

Personally, I'm surprised so many people have chosen to know the yearly slate. I like surprises; gives me something to look forward to each month. I honestly thought the poll would have swung the other way once people started thinking about it.

All I'd really like to know is how many figures are going to be released in any given year, which Sideshow has supplied and surpassed this year.

As far as I'm concerned, SSC has a "master plan" for the entire Star Wars 12" line set from the beginning. I belive, that every single 12" release until the end of the SW licence agreement, is already planed, leaving some gaps to anticipate last minute tendencies. Belive it or not.

Consider me schooled by Dusty.

Not that I mind. ;) :duff

I like to know release shedules so that I can adapt my collecting based on the company's "master plan." When 1/6 was primarily my thing I didn't mind getting a regular edition Jedi Luke...until they announced Jabba. Having the iconic pistol pointing at the crime boss would have been really cool. If I had known in advance that Jabba was coming within a year I could have tried harder for the exclusive.

I would not want to know the entire year. Sure it would help me plan expenses but it would kill the interest in the line. I frequent this site everyday to learn tidbits and clues to the next release. I have to say I hope the SS staff gives us little clues once in a while like they did for the Jabba set. That was pretty cool when the collectors worked together to figure it out. I hope we have another brainstorming session like that soon. :chew

I wouldn't want to know in advance either. I like the surprise and suspense. It does suck to have to try to guess what's coming. For instance I might get a Palpatine PF if there isn't going to be a Dooku for a few years. Which is different than 1/6 I know, but they're the ones I mainly collect and the sentiment is the same.

The hardest part is knowing that it will be years before my favorite characters are made (C-3PO, R2-D2, Vader, Stormtrooper, Yoda). :monkey2

But for good reason. Can you imagine ANY of those coming out on an Art S Buck body? :monkey4

Very True, Irish. I know Sideshow likes to cut costs whenever possible, but I think even they would have a hard time justifying R2 on a Buck body.:monkey5
