I'm no Fanboy as I have an Xbox and a PS3.
I have also experienced both the RROD and the YLOD,
but these figures just don't make good reading for Microsoft. Yes this will not effect the 360, but what about the future consoles?

What is interesting about this is 97% of the people polled that had broken systems said they would gladly buy another one. So that speaks volumes to me. That tells me that people want to play the games on their 360's versus any other platform. :lecture

My original system finally RROD'd last night!!! Good thing I had the Halo 3 system ready to put in place! :rotfl

Also found my warranty info, and my 3 years will be up on 10/6/2009, so I can get it repaired just under the wire!!! :rock :chew

My old 360 had a different problem than the RROD, so Microsoft wouldn't replace it. I got an Elite instead, and have had no problems with it thus far. However, should it decide to go the way of the other 360s, I'll get a PS3 instead...

The only reason that I got an Xbox 360 over a PS3 in the first place was because of Dead Rising...

But now that's coming to PS3, I don't see any reason to stay with Xbox 360 should it ASPLOD again...

I don't think "gladly" is the right choice of words. I think once people have invested so much into a system they don't want to give up on it and be stuck with a pile of (now) useless games.

I had my original xbox for about 3 years until it went out on me. My fault too , trying to change the case. :lol I've had an elite now for a while , touch wood its been fine.
I've had a ps3 since last year and thats been fine too so far.

Also is 54% based on the number or total repairs /total # of systems or total number of unique system repairs/ total # of systems. Some people had systems that got it all the time and had numerous repairs when I know a lot of people that never had an issue.

Ok nevermind it was a less than 5000 person survey. Its not even a valid pole. They survery less then 1/100 of a percent of just the 360 sales

Yes it was a non scientific survey.

Most of us who burn out a console probably do so because we play the living crap out of it. My PS3 will probably last forever because I only average maybe 2-4 hours of use per week. The 360? Easily 30 hours per week, minimum. You ride your horse hard enough, it'll eventually die.

that was my first question. how many people participated in the survey. i'd say it was BS anyways. and yes i still have my first generation Elite 360 and it works flawlessly and is quieter than my 60gb PS3.

personally Im not sure why any fail rate of any system can be deemed acceptable on any level .....

now if youre installing / configuring the system in ways not recommended by the manufacturer then thats another thing

but if you play your games as your supposed to and avoid any tampering and keep your system in the recommended environment/conditions, then it should be able to be played to death with little to ZERO fail rate IMO ..... :monkey1

Any room for one more person in this perfect hardware world of yours? There's no zero failure rate in the world of consumer electronics.

That's not really the problem though. My PC is on 24/7 and it never overheats. The problem with the 360 is that the parts are crammed in there too close together and the heat starts melting the GPU. The 360 has a design flaw that makes it overheat.

As a side note, this article from last year cites a 16% failure rate, with a sample size of 1000, which claims the sample size was valid. So, why wouldn't a sample size of 5000 be valid?? I can answer that question seeing as how I've taken statistics and market research classes and have used sample sizes. I've posted research that uses a sample size of 200, which is still scientifically accurate. It all depends on what statistics you run your data through and what type of tests you use. All they're really saying is when it's non-scientific is that they said "Okay, we took 5000 surveys and 2700 people said their 360 RROD'd, so that's a 54% failure rate" That's still a valid statistic, even though it's not "scientific". You'd have to run a few more tests to show that it's statistically significant, or what kind of margin of error you have. then you'd have a "scientific" survey. All I'd be concerned with is if 1000 PS3 fanboys responded that their 360 failed when they don't even own one. But, that's something that all surveys have a problem with, just like the "who are you going to vote for in November?" survey.

Bottom line is, 360 has a lot of great games, they've got some cool DLC, but it was rushed to market and has a design flaw that is prone to overheating.

didnt say it wasnt going to happen, Im saying it shouldnt be considered acceptable.
