my 2 cents..

xbox
best online system
best online multiplayer games
all great ps3 games cross-platform for xbox to play online
have to pay for online

ps3
free online, but really no games to play on it
blu-ray
no really great exclusive games YET (MGS4 will change that)
truly great graphics and sound

really depends on your tastes. if you like playing online games (like I do, I really don't even play single player versions of the games (gears of war, halo3, cod4)) then get xbox. if you really want a blow you away single player gaming experience, probably go with ps3.

I was a big Playstation fiend.
I have a PS and a PS2.
However, when the PS3 same out, I did not rush out to get one.
But, for this past X-Mas, my in-laws got me an X-Box 360.
I love it.
I have only been around the PS3 a little bit so I cannot really compare the two myself.
The added bonus for PS3 though is that it is one of the top playing Blue Ray players out there.

I was always against X-Box, but now that I have one and I did not have to pay for it, I like it.
I am a little upset that not all games are created for all platforms, but I understand.
PS3 would have to come out with a ton of games for me to buy one.
With that said, had I not laready had an X-Box 360, I would probably buy the PS3 and maybe even be displeased after I did it.

I have always been a HUGE PS fan....have the PS3 and love it. Just recently picked up the XBOX 360 to play online with some other freaks....it's really starting to grow on me. I think others have made good points....if you want a good entertainment system....good games and blu ray capabilities go PS3 but if you want great games and a kick ass online experience go XBOX 360.

that pretty much sums it up. it's a win-win no matter which way you go.

A lot of great information.....still really torn though. I like that its win-win and in reality whichever I don't get I will probably get sometime next year maybe Christmas 2009....ugh....

If you are a gamer and big into movies I would go with the PS3. The BD player is worth the purchase.

If you a only looking for gaming and are big on on line play get the Xbox.

Sounds kinda like the PS3 may be best for me since I don't play all that much and I don't have too much interest in playing on-line. Although it does sound like some of y'all have alot of fun playing with each other on-line...

I would like to just add that knowing Microsoft a Blu-Ray Add on for the 360 is more then likely in the works. I have both and I almost never play the PS3. The 360 is much better gaming system in my opinion. Plus you can play online with a large group of freaks on Live. I know for me if the game is on both PS3 and 360 I am getting the 360 hands down. As far the warranty I don't know anyone that has had issues with newer versions of the 360. I have had none with mine but I didn't get an early version. Most of the people who have had problems have the older versions.

The "Red Ring of Death" is definitely on my mind especially with the two articles out today about 16-20% of XBOX 360s burning out....

Well made my decision and went with the PS3, canceled Ben Grimm today and went to Costco to get the bundle for it. I plan to get the XBOX 360 as well but I want the Elite system so I'll probably wait around for it. Thanks for all the advise and hopefully I made the right decision.

I would say that if you didn't go with the 360 only based on articles that are talking about older versions then, I would say yes you made a mistake. I think if you asked all the people who have both to chose one that a very large majority would say 360.

I've had my 360 since midnight of the launch and have never had a problem with it. I've actually had a ton of problems with my PS3 in the 5 or so months that I've owned it.

So I guess for us slobs who don't care about online play or Blue-Ray players maybe Xbox is best. I have to get one or the other for GTA IV and Force Unleashed.

Force Unleashed is pretty much the biggest motivator for me wanting to get one of the newer systems. I may not buy one before it comes out.

Having a good time with my new PS3....the game graphics are phenomenial. Still want the 360 and plan to pick it up down the line hopefully sooner than later but between switching back and forth between Assassin's Creed and Smash Bros Brawl....my time is well spent. :D

I would say buy both - then pick up a Wii when you can find it. Sounds expensive? Sure. But, if you pick up a Gamefly subscription (2 to 3 games a month for 20 to 30 bucks) and only buy the truly stellar games, you will not be sorry. Think of each so-so game you rent instead of blowing 50 to 60 dollars on as "payment" towards the purchase price of the systems. Each system has it's advantages, but they all also have huge lulls in quality releases. So, get all 3 and only buy the best games - period.

Those articles are not "current" in any sense of the word. People have known about the launch 360's problems for over a year. That's why Microsoft extended the warranty on those launch machines (to 2 years I believe). That 16% number is still averaging in the older systems. The newer ones (both the elite and the regular based on smaller chip architecture - less heat, plus a built in HDMI port) are not showing anywhere near that level of malfunction. So, skip the used market, buy an HDMI system and game on.

On a side note, I have a launch system (sat in line at Wal-Mart launch night for 7 hours after work ... playing a PSP ironically) and I have *knock on wood* never had a problem. I do remember back when the first news of the launch defects hit the net worrying about my system. Went to turn it on and nothing. I about freaked. Then I noticed my hard drive was partially disconnected (had moved it from vertical to horizontal to fit in a new cabinet). But, you got to love the timing ... it was right after I had read an article about launch systems breaking down online :D

Bought a PS3 cause of the failure rate of the 360 and i have not regretted it one bit.

Just for clarification, the RROD was a huge concern of mine, and I was willing to hold off as long as necessary before getting one. But the newest 360's seem to have resolved the issue with both a better heat sink and a new graphics processor with smaller (45 nanometer vs. 60 nanometer chips, i.e. less heat dissipation). While I haven't played mine as much as I wish I could, I have never experienced a RROD. It's locked up maybe 3X after leaving on for 6+ hours, but not the RROD. Just google it and you'll see it's not as big of a problem as it used to be on the earlier 360 models with heat dissipation issues.

I looked for the specific link...

AHHH! this is the link to identify a "good" xbox 360 (codename FALCON), Anandtech, not Cnet

Edit: Note: all the times I experienced a lockup, was when playing assasins creed, which I heard was inherently buggy, so I consider it a SW issue and not a HW issue.
