This is the moment when XM teaches Prime1 and Sideshow that they can take a non canon and unorthodox concept and turn it into a masterpiece.

SSC was doing that with their SW Mythos line and then Disney put an end to it :( .... At least I think that is why they stopped.

Having said that... As great as the stuff is Prime 1 is doing... Why go non cannon and unorthodox?? Just asking because from what I have seen they are number 1 in the game... Now that could change after in hand photos show up but if we get what has been advertised... I think they should just do what they want.

Plus.. I could be wrong but didn't XM go this route because they had to???

Anyways even though I am let down by the regular cowl this Batman body sculpt detail is amazing and one of the best I have seen. The regular cowl ruins it for me and I don't care about the other options..

If it's true that XM could not do a regular looking bats and so they had to go with this Asian style, I am surprised they are getting away with trade out parts that make this a regular Batman... I think it's great.. I hate these license restrictions and wish that companies could buy any license and release anywhere.

Congrats to those who love this and who are able to get it.

Hmn.

Loved it at first, but now that it's painted, the "regular" cowl REALLY looks out of place with the rest of the body. There's way too much detail that the barebones cowl stands like a sore thumb, and that's the way I wanted to display it tbh.

.

Yeah.. This was might have been my first XM but I don't care for the reg cowl. Wish I lived in an area where I could see it in person.

I just wish they were allowed to distribute in the US. No statue is worth moving to another country. Of course my feelings might change after the upcoming election.

i can't be the only one that is worried about the leaning issue. with that sculpted cape you can see it's already leaning to one side. i hope they take proper precautions because this is such an awesome piece!

XM has a kinda promotional video on YouTube about themselves and in it they are very proud of their QC. I believe each product goes through two separate QC departments.

That's not even close. As much as I love the Mythos line (one of the best lines ever in the collectibles market, period), Sideshow could stick to the original characters. They had to reinvent poses and situations but that's not like reinventing the whole character head to bottom imho.

That's the point. XM could only secure a DC license for reinvented-orientalized versions of DC character, this is the challenge and it's something most people wouldn't have bet a cent on. It's a matter of taking famous and iconic characters, changing them while keeping the essence intact.
XM took this task and made a true masterpiece out of it, I would love to see any other company pulling the same amount of win under similar circumstances but as much as I may love what other companies are doing, I call a spade a spade: they play too safe to try something similar.

As for the statue... people that want it, want it EXACTLY because it's different and non-canon. This is what other people don't seem to understand when they keep repeating "b-but it's not canon, this is not Batman".
I have 4, possibly 5 Batman pieces coming to be displayed, I wouldn't bother to buy that many of the same character if they weren't radically different.
I simply can't bother enough about buying the Batman PF AND the Noel Batman AND the Frank Miller Batman AND the Jim Lee Batman AND the Arkham games Batman AND the [insert other costume here]. I appreciate the difference in style and costumes from artist to artist but I could never bring myself to shell money on a number of characters that, end of the day, would be very similar once displayed.
And if I had to pick ONE single Batman statue to represent the character, it wouldn't be from any of the 3 companies doing DC stuff right now anyway. :)

I think I like the XM batman statue as much as I do because I personally don't think it looks that different from the original bats. I mean other then the 2 Asian heads and shoulder pads it looks like a more advance bat suit that you might see in a Arkham game. This is not a knock on the imagination behind it as it looks great and it is a new original suit.

But I get why a collector of Batman would want a very different Bats. Personally that is not for me since I only have one batman and Noel on the way.

The amount of display options is another good point. I forget about it since I'm firmly convinced to display it with sword, samurai head and shoulder pads but yes, other options can bring it very close to a modern/videogame Batman.
I'm no into Deathstroke (passed on the P1 version as good as it is) but if XM made a companion oriental Deathstroke based on this model here I'd totally have to buy it. Killer diorama it would be:

I think if the final product resembled this I would have been happier.

So just to be on the same page ...what is the difference between this initial 3D rendering and the final painted statue?

I just want to understand what the differences are that you find lacking.

At first it was just the cape. It looks so much better to me in the rendering. Also the difference between the cowl and suit is less noticeable. And the more I look at the rendering, the more I like the imposing nature of the stance Batman has in it. There's not a huge difference in posture but I do see it. It's very nitpicky, I admit, but it makes a big difference in my eyes. And again, this is still an awesome statue, but I just don't love it.

Not nitpicky. I noticed the stance straight away. Its body language. I prefer the more upright stance with shoulders back. Shows ALOT more hero confidence

Oh ok. So it's the subtle things that you're picking up on. Makes sense since different people will see things differently.

I was just curious because the way I see it, the printed piece looks exactly like the rendering. I wish the pics below had the same angle to show what I mean, but even with that they still look the same ...to me. And as far as the paint goes, I don't see the difference between the suit and cowl too glaring. To me it's like the black/gray Batman PF ...the suit is gray and the cowl is black.

Different people seeing it differently. Unfortunately, it happens sometimes ....

the more i look at it the more i'm not a fan of the cape. just doesn't flow very well or even attach to his shoulders in a realistic way. i hope they change it slightly for the production pieces.

That Cowl looks a lot different in the two photos IMO. The Stance does look more "Heroic" in the rendering shot also but that could be the angle.
