I've had this a few days.
My thoughts are it's the best Captain America I've owned (Owned quite a few)
I love the sculpt, I thinks its absolutely perfect. ...
LBS has done a fantastic job with this and the team should be really proud.
I dont think I will need to buy another comicbook Cap ever again.
I took the slow boat route with mine.
TBH, these last few months I hadn't been feeling this one anymore. There were things I was never crazy about with the sculpt, going back all the way to the unpainted prototypes and I'd begun dwelling on those more and more.
Honestly, I was starting to dread getting it. I anticipated I would have a hard time seeing past those things.
I'm also a big fan of classic costumes on these statues, and only mildly tolerant of the more realistic, tactical upgrades these companies foist on everything.
I don't have your range of reference, having only owned a couple other Caps in my life. One was the last 1/6 Bowen they did (metallic paint). Liked it a lot, but sold it for a nice profit.
The other is the Sideshow Allied Cap, which kind of took me by surprise. It's not perfect, but I never expected to like it as much as I do. Excellent paint and detail, and a very thoughtful real-world re-jiggering of the basic costume which I had absolutely no problem with.
The only niggling complaint I have with it is Rogers looks a little too old and haggard to me. Should be in his twenties and there he looks like he's in his late thirties.
With the LBS though, just like you, I feel like I've finally got my ideal "comicbook" Cap. The little deviations from the classic costume don't register at all. When I look at it all I see is classic Cap. It's magnificent, majestic, inspiring...
The shield on back pose with the classic wings is the image that sold it for me.The bonus is they all look great, and it's going to be fun to change it up once in a while.
I agree with you on the base too. I rarely use the word perfect to describe this stuff, but for me it's just about the ideal base all around. It has character, but at the same time it''s understated and doesn't compete for attention with the figure itself.
Your eye immediately goes to Cap, not the base. That's exactly the way it should be- and why I'm not as high on the upcoming Thor as most everyone else is.
I love that the foot print is so modest as well. The whole thing has huge presence in the room, but doesn't need to eat up a lot of real estate to accomplish that.
LBS/XM did a superlative job with this.
So glad I didn't let it slip past.
