malware can 'dial out' to it's owner. that's why it's important to have a software firewall along with your anti-virus and malware software. together they cover the bases.

Or just watch what you click. I haven't used a antivirus in years and have also managed never to have one either.

some software programs can install malware or spyware unknown to the installer. some links can infect a pc including clicking on a photo and can install a malicious program through your browser cache. going without what i mentioned before is like swimming without a sock. hackers can get pretty creative when it comes to messing up your stuff. you've been lucky up until now but just not clicking a link doesn't protect you.

i always thought that if you forgot your password or hint, yahoo could email you a link to reset your choices. that's why they ask for a backup email address.

I have worked in IT for a long time. I am we'll aware how it works and guess what I still have not got any spyware, malware, or viruses on my PCs. I will use trials every so often to check.

And if hackers want to get creative your Swiss cheese software firewall won't do much. Don't even get me started on where most viruses come from.

you've worked in IT and don't use anti-virus, anti-spyware or anti-malware? only to scan afterwards? do you recommend to your IT clients not to use these as well? that will keep your business hopping. :rotfl

No I would tell people to do that if they don't know what to look for, but I know the likelihood of me getting I a virus is about 0.

I was just experiencing something like this a few days ago. I had like 50 spammed emails and they were sent to my contacts from my account as well. I never got around to changing my account password. The next day I tried checking my email but I couldn't log in. I've had this email account over 10 years so I was definitely panicking. lol But I had my account set up so that I can change the password from my Gmail account. When I logged into my yahoo account, they sent me a Yahoo Administrative notice saying there was something suspicious happening with my account so they locked it.

At that point isn't it better to just delete the Yahoo account and start a new one?

And yeah a lot of people yahoo accts have been hacked lately. I know a few people's who have been hacked.

Not if you have things stored on there. And any website that has your email address you'd have to go in a change or start another account with them. Big hassle if yahoo is your main email account.
