Your definition of a "full size" statue?

I've been seeing a new phrase on ebay that has me really confused. The phrase is "full size". What the heck does an ebayer mean when he says that a statue is full size?

Seriously, go to ebay and enter the search for "full size statue" and see what you get. I just don't get it.

I don't know about you but to me full size means 1:1 scale. How can a 1/6th or 1/4 scale statue be full size?

I think the "FS" used so much was originally meant to stand for Full Sculpt.
Which has been misinterpreted to Full Size. which has spiraled out of control.

What they should be saying is "full body" as both items you pointed out are not really busts, as they feature the entire body length of the character.

That is the problem with eBay lately - the descriptions often deceive.

I believe "full size" refers to the original larger version of a particular statue that may have also been produced in a smaller size. The Jim Lee Superman and Batman statues are a good example of this. They were first produced in a large size then reproduced in a smaller size later on. I'm probably way wrong though.

I will agree with the above that it probably means full body. It is kinda silly though.

To me full size implies either a) life size or b) 1:1 scale to an original piece (ie a full size reproduction of Michaelangelo's "David").

I got the impression from statue forum that it refers to old Bowen statues that were full sculpts, meaning the entire character and not just a bust, but also in the Bowen scale which was around 1/6. When I see "full size" I assume it's 1/6 scale.

But it makes more sense if it's 1:1.

the term full size describes a full length sculpt from head to toe as compared to just the bust of the character which usually includes the head, shoulders and sometimes arms. full size statues usually range from 10"-27".

you'll also notice bowen makes mini-statues which are around the size of their busts, but includes a head to toe sculpt. they are usually below 10".

contact the seller if the total height of the item is not in the description, or do a google search for reference information.

Yeah, this always confused me too, since there are a lot of smaller statues (but full bodied) listed this way. The full sculpt/FS explanation makes a lot of sense.

It is not a new term, it has been used for years. It has been around since Bowen started making "full sculpt" 1/6th scale statues and those were called full size statues.

I think the term you should be using for anything 1:1 scale would be life size not full size.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Not until now did I notice that most of the items were Bowen pieces.

The reason I got my panties twisted was because I keep seeing the term used for the Doom PF. I could not understand how someone could call a 1:4 scale Doom Full size when he was clearly 1:4.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who been confused/annoyed by this bizarre coined phrase. It took me a long time before I finally figured out what the heck the guys over at SF were talking about when they referred to "full size" statues, but the Darklord's answer is right on the money. It simply means a full-bodied statue, rather than a bust. It has nothing to do with the size of a statue at all. Which only makes it's continued use even more ludicrous.

full size = not a bust or head, but head to toe of a character.

FYI, 1:1 stuff are referred to as "life sized" not "full sized"
