I could only imagine how big the box will be from B&N filled with all kinds of Criterion goodness. :lol

:lol

That one i'm not getting until next month (hopefully). It's being shipped to a friend in the US who will then ship it to me so the customs bill won't be as bad :D

I love the Chaplin films, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, M, The Third Man, the Wes Anderson films, 8 1/2, Che, Wages of Fear, Paths of Glory, Charade, The Night of the Hunter, Blow Out, Videodrome, The Magician, Stagecoach, Kagemusha, The 400 Blows, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Days of Heaven, Chunking Express, and Solaris to name a few. I guess I just love movies or something. :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

Guys,

I was sad to hear the Last Emperor was not the extended. What are your thoughts on this as it made me stop placing my order.

Also if you have seven samurai, what are you thoughts on the AQ and PQ ?

Seven Samurai is amazing on Blu. 'Nuff said! :exactly:
As for Last Emperor, I still bought it anyway just to have it. But I also kept my extended edition DVD.

What do you think of the sound on Emperor ? I used to love that soundtrack.

Did they get rid of the annoying pops in the sound on Samurai?

On another note, I'm chuckling at my Amazon Gold Box picks for me today. They are all Criterion Blu-ray movies with an average price of $20-$25 each with the discount. :cuckoo::cuckoo:
Too bad they won't price match the Barnes and Noble sales. :monkey2

From Blu-Ray.com...

There are two audio tracks on this Blu-ray disc: Japanese LPCM 1.0 (Mono) and Japanese LPCM 2.0 (the back cover of the disc incorrectly states that a Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track is included). For the record, Criterion have provided optional English subtitles for the main feature.

The following text appears inside the booklet provided with this Blu-ray disc:

"The surround mix was created from original optical track recordings, original music masters, and original production sound effects masters. The original monaural soundtrack was mastered at 24-bit from an optical soundtrack print. Clicks, thumps, hiss, and hum were manually removed using Pro Tools HD. Crackle was attenuated using Audio Cube's integrated audio workstation."

The audio treatment is as impressive as the video treatment, if not more. The Japanese LPCM 1.0 track boasts a variety of strong dynamics allowing Fumio Hayasaka's legendary score to shine. Due to the fact that a number of different sources have been used to assemble a complete soundtrack, there are some inconsistencies, mostly in terms of dynamic progression; however, there are no pitch related issues to report in this review. The dialog is pleasingly stable, clean, and easy to follow. Also, aside from inherited minor background hiss, there are no problematic cracks, pops, or dropouts. Lastly, the English translation is excellent.

I tested a few selected scenes with the Japanese LPCM 2.0 track, and specifically scenes where Fumio Hayasaka's score is prominent. There are some marginal advantages pertaining to low and mid range dynamics, specifically with the woodwinds, but I prefer the more organic spectrum of dynamics the LPCM 1.0 track houses. The dialog is equally stable, clean, and easy to follow.

Are you submitting lower price found/price matches? I didn't even know about this feature until someone on the Gold Box forum brought it up. :lol

I've submitted about 12 or so Criterion ones. Still holding out hope they do something.

I'm not the best person to ask about audio, since I don't have surround sound system. :monkey2:monkey2
I'll leave that to UT. :wave

:lecture :monkey1 :wave

I am planning on getting this soon :D

That is what I have, and for me and my smaller townhome, it works perfectly. But I feel it would be a bit flat for anyone who is moving from surround sound. I never attached the back speakers to my surround sound six years ago when I moved into the new home, so having the new soundbar system is quite exhilerating to my ears and senses. Always hated wires all over the place, and not being able to prewire for surround in a connected unit.

I don't have that exact system you are looking at IF, but I have the step down I think which came with the bluray player. It's the BDV-F7, and it has been a very nice complement to my new 60 inch Bravia.

I'm a :D camper...
