It's actually not all that suspicious, in context. The entire industry right now is having to adapt to a strained VFX system, and WB isn't the only one that's had to delay movies. The WB movies that were delayed also weren't just DCEU ones; the Willy Wonka prequel (I don't know why this is a thing), DC Superpets and The Meg 2, three films that have zero to do with potential continuity reboots to the DCEU, all got pushed back as well.Yep, seems a pretty big coincidence that The Flash has also been pushed back over 6 months.
I'm not saying it's to make room for the Snyderverse, I think it's because of the merger to give the new regime time to work the stuff out and potentially make some changes, reshoots etc. The Flash was Emmerich + Co's last ditch effort to close the door on their Snyderverse F-up. The movie may also just suck, and Discovery thinks it needs some more work ?It's actually not all that suspicious, in context. Could the delay be because the Snyderverse is being restored? I guess anything's possible. But I feel like Occam's Razor applies here. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.
I mean no offense, but I sounds like maybe you don't know how long VFX actually take. These superhero movies are essentially cinematic video games in terms of the VFX used. The Mandalorian "Stagecraft" tech was based on videogame engines. Games take YEARS to make. 13 months sounds like a long time but it's not when you consider that not only does nearly every shot require VFX these days, but the level of detail required in those shots. Then the amount of time it takes to revise those VFX when someone says "I don't like that, lets change it to this," and even more so when reshoots happen. It's not a matter of a couple of key strokes and your done. My brother is an Art Director for games and used to freelance in movies, but stopped due to the ridiculously limited time they're given to complete the amount of work required. When No Way Home was released, the film ppl saw on the opening weekend wasn't even the final version. VFX artist were still churning out edits the following weeks from what I've been told. The only reason they released it when they did was so it could qualify for the Oscars. Not saying that VFX are the only reason for the push backs, but you have to factor in almost all departments when the story changes and reshoots happen. One change tends to have a domino effect on multiple departments, with VFX being one of the main ones that gets affected these days. All that stuff takes time, and if you're in the position to give ppl more time to make things hopefully better, best to do so than to rush it just to get it out the door.[...]
C'mon VFX may be strained, but they finished filming in October last year. VFX teams etc would all be long hired and working on it. They had 13 months to do the VFX which is normal, now they suddenly need an additional 7 months. I doubt it.
Aquaman also will have re-shoots.
In any case, we'll see in the coming weeks/months I guess.
It has my vote in spirit, but I don't do Facebook.Perhaps slightly off topic, but Queen Studio / InArt is currently running poles on what figures from different movie genres and times they should make. Exactly what Hot Toys should do, but haven't.
One guy made a separate post asking that they do a revised take on a Reeves Superman.
"Dear InArt (1/6 Collectible Figures) Queen Studios Collectibles , just like Heath Ledger Joker, this character is long due for an upgrade. Give this man a respect and honor since his legendary performance and movie single handedly opens the door for the comic book genre in Hollywood.
A Superman two pack with Clark Kent persona (hat, coat, tie, jacket, pants and leather bag), Superman with two types of cape, walking and wired cape, green crystal and the fortress solitude control panel that can light up".
If you'd be up for that, then go vote and comment !!!

Sure it takes a lot of time, no question about that, but my point is they had time already allocated and working on it for the work they knew they needed to do. Why push back 7 months more as well as other movies right before the merger ? I just think VFX is a convenient excuse, as do others who also work in the industry.I mean no offense, but I sounds like maybe you don't know how long VFX actually take. I get what you're saying; however, my point was that the original allocated time is usually actually never enough for VFX which is why I gave the No Way Home example of them still editing the movie after it's release as well as my own brother who got burned out b/c of the limited "allocated time" they're given to pull off the amazing stuff we see onscreen. Most movie studios are still operating on older timelines on how long they think VFX should take based on what it used to be like in the days when CGI was sparingly used with most FX still being done practically vs digitally. Most execs aren't taking into account that the majority of their movies require countless digital FX to be done in today's world.Sure it takes a lot of time, no question about that, but my point is they had time already allocated and working on it for the work they knew they needed to do. But sure I could be wrong, as could we all.
My hunch is that the delays for the movies scheduled for release this year is because they're doing reshoots. And that is because ZSJL 2 and 3 are being green lit.
I think The Flash will establish and cement the multiverse concept of infinite parallel timelines/universes. This allows ZSJL 2 and 3 to complete, including inevitable spinoff movies and TV shows, but in it's own discreet separate universe.
One again, Jim Lee laid all this out a year and a half ago at DC Fandome:
Toby Emmerich is butthurt because he's got egg all over his face due to AT&T pushing through the Snyder cut, and then once released the apparent massive success of ZSJL. We'll find out what the numbers were eventually.
Anyway, ZSJL exposes just how bad Emmerich's judgment has been from the get-go regarding studio interference (including with Ayer's Suicide Squad, which we will also see shortly). I think Emmerich had planned to use the multiverse concept in The Flash to slam the door shut on the five film arc saga Snyder was telling. But Zaslav reportedly loves the DC trinity in particular. Who knows, maybe he loves Cavill, Affleck, and Gadot in their respective roles. Reportedly Zaslav even wants a trinity movie specifically, which according to rumor (I know, I know, but we'll find out shortly) will be part of Cavill's six film deal to continue as Superman.
But if I'm right what I want to emphasize is that the other directions that directors such as Jenkins, Wan, Sandberg, Reeves, Gunn, Muschietti, Collet-Sera, Fallah, Soto, et al., all wish to take will all maintain their own integrity. It's just that alongside all that the Snyderverse can continue with it's own integrity restored and maintained as well.
This is actually the best that we can hope for. There is no way to satisfy the taste of every single fan. But with this multiverse design those that want other than what Snyder was doing can have that. And Snyder fans can enjoy what they like. And maybe it will make it just a little easier psychologically for each side to relax and sit back and enjoy the other films for what they each respectively have to offer.
Will David Zaslav be the grownup in the room to make this happen, as Jim Lee outlined? I'm praying that he will.
Yep point taken. Be it game developers or VFX artists they never get enough time. So hopefully after all of this it will be a win-win and the movie and our viewership of it will be the better on all accounts (VFX and story in particular).I get what you're saying; however, my point was that the original allocated time is usually actually never enough for VFX which is why I gave the No Way Home example of them still editing the movie after it's release as well as my own brother who got burned out b/c of the limited "allocated time" they're given to pull off the amazing stuff we see onscreen. Again, I'm NOT saying the VFX are the only cause but it wouldn't surprise if that is part of it along with rewrites and therefore reshoots and many other corporate shenanigans on top of it. And even if it's not the cause, those artists work to the bone to even try to get those heavy CGI scenes done on time and hopefully looking their best, so I image the extra time is a bit of godsend for them regardless of what the real reason is.
James Wan flat out said there was no way Aquaman 2 was going to meet its Christmas 2022 release date, which is most likely correct since they just finished shooting relatively recently. As the other poster upthread said, VFX work (especially the kind that actually looks good) is not quick under even the best circumstances, and the COVID situation has caused a log jam for the entire industry. And, as I said previously, the claim that they're secretly being delayed so that they can be reshot to accommodate the Snyderverse ignores that other WB projects that have nothing to do with the DCEU or DC at all also got hit with delays in the same wave of announcements. I very much doubt Wonka and Super Pets are delayed because ZSJL2 has been greenlit.C'mon VFX may be strained, but they finished filming in October last year.
