I only got the tail end of the golden years but I'm glad I experienced its greatness. Never got any nudes tho.
I find this thread fascinating.
What do you guys call "the Golden Years"? Which years were those exactly, and what would you say that marked the beginning & end of that era? Why were they golden?
Thx.

Lights won't be going out.

Send me a pm.

Why? The decals are awesome. Sometimes I slap a bunch on instead of clothes and go about my day. It's liberating. Well it would be if one sticker didn't cover certain areas, but completely covered others. I got nips like saucers.

A forum is a symbiotic relationship between members, staff, technology and policy. We've done our best to maintain the spirit. Many of the concerns expressed in this thread happened before I came on so there's nothing I can do about that, but if you ever feel things starting to slip send me a message. I think anyone who has dealt with me knows me to be reasonable and accommodating.

You guys make the community the greatest it can be, I'll keep things moving along in the back end. Works for me if it works for you.
If lights won't be going out, that means you guys turn a profit that allow paying for Cloud, utilities, workers & investors. Ads revenues (I won't disable adds BTW) and subscriptions must amount to all that, even at this all time low.
Wish we were provided reliable data on the financial healthy of this site......

Anyways, this gives one hope that there is still hope for specialized places like this one.
Thx.

I'm great! The human-sized hamster wheel I run in to keep CF online just got an upgrade. Well, the union agreed I should get breaks so now at noon and midnight I get five minutes off to shower, and sleep.

They feed me on the wheel which is nice, but I'm tired of spaghetti. It's hard to eat while you're running and I didn't get the garlic bread I've been asking for.
Would be great to get a realistic view on how this thing is run.
All that bunker exploitation jokes are fun, but it would be reassuring knowing what is done with the money the forum generates.

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your fine fellow. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.
Well, at least you got some spare time. Good to know. ;-p

With all streams considered we're fine.

Supporting membership more than anything is the best way of supporting the community, but I understand that's not an option for some so if they want to keep ads on that works for me. If they want to turn them off that's fine too. I want people to enjoy their time here and if ads take away from that I understand. I keep them on as I will not subject anyone to anything I won't do myself.

I will gladly eat my words.

Set a reminder I guess. Not sure where you would post it if we went down, but I'm down for it.

I mean nothing is eternal so if we are cyborgs in 2000 years and something happens feel free to give me a "told you so" but as it stands things are pretty solid.

It’s one of those things where you just had to be there to understand

Damn, it's really great to see some OG people pop up in this thread to say their piece. Miss you guys and miss the old days. :rock:rock:rock:rock
Oh, to be back to 2005-2008. Never thought I would get nostalgic for the 2000's but here we are. 1:6 discussion boards were full of customs and kitbashes, varied brands and subjects and most of the OG folk were still around and active.

Outside of the hobby I have nostalgia for two main periods: 1995-2000 and 2005-2010. Those two 5 year blocks represented peaks in western culture, entertainment, collectibles and many personal happy memories. After 2015 everything went downhill on so many fronts, so I have hope that 2025 signals a return to awesome especially for entertainment and collectibles. I mean, Hasbro is finally again gonna do medium sized cheaply priced Star Wars vehicles this year (Din Djarins N1 starfighter, looks like it will be 25-35 quid for the vehicle and figure, nice!) So I am already feeling positive about that.

I turned up in 2010. The place was very dynamic, full of interesting people and many with talents that livened up the place - people who made funny on-topic gifs when gifs weren't so easy to make; customisers and modders and photographers who showcased figures in a unique and appealing way; interesting sandbox discussions. A bunch of unrelated events happened around 2015-ish that saw the forum break up. The place had become a toxic dumpster pit. Things seem to have settled down now with a new generation of collectors, new admin and a few of the old guard still hanging around, which is nice to see.

So grateful to have gotten here just in time for arguably the most legendary Spooktacular. The event still had an IRC chat, Sideshow's CEO was handing out grails left and right, folks were getting slapped by trouts... good times. The community was small enough that you'd recognize most of the usernames and Sideshow really treated us lucky few right during their events. And even if you didn't win something, you'd know who did and be happy for them. It felt like a celebration for those of us who cared enough to log in and spend our nights with each other.

Nowadays, such events seem to exist solely to spread brand awareness. More effort is spent on attracting new buyers (or simply shares/mentions on social media). Feels less intimate, less communal.

LoL remember that dude who turned up with a story about his kid being sick from living in a mouldy house and Dave + Sideshow put up a Balrog statue as a fundraiser to help with the house renovations :ROFLMAO:

I remember it was a go-fund-me type of thread. And then the user started making passive-aggressive remarks when no one was donating to him. I only remembered about it, because Bodie had some hilarious replies about the situation :lol. What a trip down memory lane...
