As someone who has helped to "build" an '89 suit replica and strove to get it to a level of accuracy seen in the film, that texture on the Hot Toys is crazy. Once you have obsessed over any of these costumes, you go a little crazy when someone gets a major detail wrong!
And the fact that there’s absolutely no reason to go to the trouble of texturing the mold to make it like that when there’s no screengrab or promo shot that makes it look remotely that rough. Major head scratcher.

The real question is, why do we think they decided to change the texture?

Was it to add visual interest by creating more texture? Was it to hide sloppy modifications they made in order to bulk up the original mold? Were there issues with the original mold since they last produced the figure?

Could’ve had a real good release.

Well this 89 Batman was supposed to be my first one for my new collection but I feel HT delivered a product not worth the asking price to me. One faceplate is unusable, another iffy on likeness, and the suit is completely inaccurate (I grabbed a photo while watching the film last night that really shows this). With the Batman Returns 2.0 announced I’m going to invest in that one instead (fingers crossed HT doesn’t mess that one up). Cheers to those who got this and are enjoying it. When mine arrives Monday I’ll be working to find it a new home.

I received mine yesterday. The suit texture doesn't make it look bad, but like the picture above shows it's completely inaccurate. Cowl is very nice and texture on that is similar to the movie.

Overall, I'm happy I got it but I agree it's expensive for an inaccurate figure without a head sculpt. The regular version crotch grabber is also too tall and risks damaging the suit. Cape is decent enough for me so I won't be changing it.

I’m doing the same,
I believe it’s a great alternative route to take.

While I much prefer the suit from ‘89 due to its sheer rugged appearance, it being from the better film and awaiting the Batmobile for it, the two suits are extremely similar at a distance.

So why should I struggle with inaccuracies on one while the other looks much closer to its material.

I also think the ‘92 suit greater represents Keaton’s take as a whole, and its evolution realized into one suit. Very sharp details and the cowl is just about perfection.

I think those wanting to take this approach will be much more satisfied if inaccuracies pull at them, whole lot less to adjust, whether that’s your vision or the figure itself.

Got my invoice from Alter Ego so I guess this is starting to ship from some retailers now. Just going to let it cancel itself as I just can’t try to like this enough to pay that remaining balance.
Glad I let mine go , would have been buyers remorse and the cool diorama isn't worth the price alone !
