I can't tell what's real or what's AI anymore.
It's real. Mostly. This photo of Nicole DeBoer predates AI art. It's hard to tell, because whoever did her makeup covered up the mole above her mouth. It appears to have completely disappeared, whereas in less high-res versions of this photo, it's visible, but matches the color on the rest of her face. Her eyes look a bit funny, and there are some slightly unnatural shapes here and there, as well, so I assume that the abnormalities are the result of an upscaler program. So...AI was used to make a high-res version of a photo from about 20 years ago.
Nope. I just Googled "Nicole DeBoer" and found the original photo and some others from what looks to be the same shoot. I saw that this one was posted on facebook in 2019, which predates most AI art, but deduced from the lower resolution and the way she looks compared to today, that it was probably from around the time she was making The Dead Zone. The rest I figured out, because I've tried using a couple upscalers, myself, to clean up photos of Jake Sisko and Police Academy's Harris and Proctor in the hopes of getting something better than the usual crap for Cirroc Lofton and GW Bailey and Lance Kinsey to sign at upcoming con appearances - results have been mixed.
It hasn't just been upscaled, it's been run through some kind of A.I. "beauty" filter. So it's more like an A.I. image based closely on an existing photo. The mouth was completely replaced, eyebrows and eyelashes changed, tip of the nose changed, her fingernails extended (her thumb knuckle even 'redesigned'?!), certain skin creases altered, the hair redrawn, her arm hair smoothed away, the shoulder strap of her dress now dissolves into her skin at one point...
ALL of these enhancements that you mention are EXACTLY what a Photoshop retoucher does. I was one.
That was not done intentionally, I'm sure. It was obviously an oversight. The retoucher used the clone stamp tool and removed the highlight from the strap edge without noticing the result. That in combination with adjusting the color overall to a much warmer hue caused the strap color and the skin color to be so similar that it appears that the strap is blending into her skin.
