It was an actual miracle that it arrived unharmed!

I was like…

Always concerned about this, they don’t care as long as it gets thrown in an envelope and a sticker slapped on it.
I got all for new diney star wars and marvel releases in the classic amazon paper envelope and all were actually fine. I miss the disney club though. Watching Hawkeye now. Terminator 4k arrives tomorrow.

I have purchased The 4K Rocky box set with the 8 movies twice already from Amazon and both times it arrived with that nasty factory residue all over inside the case and this time it even arrived with the case clips broken off!

This time I even tried removing the residue and it wouldn’t even come off.

Grrr!

That damn Mexican factory is unable to deliver a clean product.

Maybe that’s why it’s heavily discounted to $63!

It’s frustrating and infuriating when you want something and you can’t have it lol

I’m constantly staggered by Amazon’s practices. I returned a movie I had accidentally bought twice and they refunded me then stated “you don’t have to return the product”. Christ that company is tooo big.

Digital Bits have posted covers for a bunch of upcoming 4K and mentioned that the following are likely across the next two years: Tron, Tron: Legacy, Amadeus, The Right Stuff, Constantine, The English Patient, Boogie Nights, 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Armageddon, Con Air, Barry Lyndon, Lethal Weapon, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the Sean Connery Bond films, The Sound of Music.

The digital only purchase for the Rocky box set is $45 which is really good for the 8 movies BUT the $64 is even better deal because for only $19 more you get the 6 4K discs!

I believe that the two extended cuts are on the same discs as the theatrical hence 6 discs not 8.

Still though what an amazing deal…if wasnt for the damn fentynal residue that is lol

My hope is Criterion starts releasing all the already existing Japanese Godzilla 4Ks over here. Biollante is a great start, need the smog monster next.

that is a good deal. Im going to have to snatch it up with some reward points.

Yup and now even better at $172!

Just remember that it’s lacking only main 2 features from the $500 UB820

1. Wifi
2. Hollywood upconverting chip for HD material

If you’re ok with that this thing is a beast.

Auto Dolby Vision

Easily handles 100gb discs without hiccups (looking at you Sony)
For me there's no comparison. My 2 cents...

  • That video processing chip does make a difference in the quality of the upscaling. It does a better job at Upscaling to 4k and adding HDR to Blu-Rays and DVD's as well. Most reviews put the quality on the UB820 above the lower model. It's actually the same video chip as in the UB9000.
  • The build quality is better and it has a front info display. A big difference alone for me. I hate players that just look like a cheap black plastic rectangle or square. SO cheap looking. And I believe the remote is better, although it's still a bit lackluster for the price point.
  • It also has dual HDMI outputs which is BIG for certain A/V setups (can use one for video to TV and one for audio if you have an older AV Receiver that doesn't support 4k). That was a big one for me till I updated my AVR a year or so later where as now I don't need it.
  • The streaming features are super outdated, but Wifi can be a big deal if you care about keeping the player's software updated with improvements over time. Without it, you won't know there are performance updates without going online, and then you'd have to download the update to a USB drive and install it manually. That alone too would be a deal breaker for me.
I would really say too it comes down to the rest of the quality of your A/V setup. If your TV isn't a top notch OLED (LG/Sony/Samsung) or Samy's top QLED maybe you won't see as much an upgrade with the video. And for audio, if your the movie enthusiast content with a "soundbar" and don't have a high end AVR and speaker setup then probably save the money.

The 820 was like $350 on Amazon I think during Black Friday. That was a steal!! I paid I think $420, which at the time several years ago was the lowest it had ever sold for.

What player are you actually reviewing? I assume it's the UB450 or UB820 since you quoted jye but you never actually say which one you're talking about in your post.

He’s referring to the 820 and it was a really good black Friday deal he is right and while I do agree with him regarding the differences and if you’re willing to spend the money then definitely go for the 820 but if you’re on a budget then you really can’t beat the 450 with it being only $171 that’s super cheap nowadays for having auto DV and HDR10+.

Especially if you don’t care about upscaling HD to fake 4K.

I own both Wi-Fi and no Wi-Fi 4K players so I’m OK with this one being attached to my ethernet cable and even Loki admitted that he no longer needs the second HDMI port lol
