I don't understand the reasoning and thought patterns people have about cancelling a figure based on a sequel, which has nothing to do with the figures. All 4 figures are based on the first film (2019), which is a masterpiece of cinema.

Imo finding out that he isn’t the Joker is a very legitimate reason to be disappointed and cancel.

The real joker were the $2000 figures we bought along the way.

Seems particular to this film as well. I don't remember people cancelling or selling their BvS figures when Josstice League came out.

Eh, I don’t really consider that the same thing. Josstice League was the result of the studio interfering and sabotaging a director’s vision. Zack still eventually ended up coming back and finishing the movie properly.

Joker 2 was the original director throwing a tantrum because people “misunderstood” his movie.

It feels different to me when the main creative force behind the movie disavows the fandom. To each their own, but that makes me think a bit less of the first movie.

Would you still buy Keaton Batman if at the end of 89 Batman, Keaton was revealed as just "Bat Boy in training" and killed off by The Joker.
I’d expect that if Keaton went out like an imposter biaatch at the end of the 89 movie and we found out he wasn’t actually Batman in a movie titled Batman, and the director then condemned anyone who enjoyed his portrayal as a far right, basement dwelling incel- appreciation for that character portrayal probably wouldn’t be at the level it is today.

Arthur Fleck as this Joker persona in the first film was always a loser though?
An audience can empathise with and root for losers though, and they aren’t wrong for doing so- especially when the first movie set out to portray indifferent institutions, political corruption, and cruel or apathetic attitudes to our fellow man in society as the primary antagonists.

Phoenix’s performance alone was worthy of admiration and appreciation even if he isn’t actually THE Joker and even if the character was utterly assassinated later on.

The first movie should stand alone and feelings towards it would ideally be contained to the context of that movie alone, but it’s not always easy to compartmentalise like that, and we’d have to take human psychology out of the equation to suggest everyone simply ignore what came next both regarding the events of the sequel and the comments and attitudes of the people involved in making it.

They don’t want us to like or root for Arthur anymore. You’re wrong for enjoying his transformation and the revolt he began; not just wrong but bad and dangerous. He’s pathetic and, if you like what he stood for, you’re pathetic and defective as well.

Some are just going to say ‘You condemn me for liking the character you intentionally wrote as a type of anti-hero and now go out of your way to deconstruct, undermine, and belittle them because you’ve become convinced that I’m guilty of wrong-think and supposed ‘people like me’ must be put in our place and exposed for the cretins we are- well fine- I wash my hands of this. Enjoy not selling any merchandise.’

That’s not my view, but I don’t fault anyone who comes to that conclusion and wants nothing more to do with Joker or anything Todd Phillips does again.

I finally watched Joker 2 over the holidays, let sit for a while before making any rash decisions, but I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t want this version of the character in my collection anymore after seeing the second one. Just going to wait until there’s hopefully a delay email and then I’ll be able to get my NRD back 🤞🏼

I know this is the InArt thread, and I didn’t order this, but seeing how the current conversation seems to be geared towards if one still likes this version of Joker after watching the second, seems ok to say so in this thread.

I didn't think I’d be one to let the second movie effect my feelings on the first and character overall, but it did.

I’m pretty much done with Star Wars because of the craptastic Disney made movies….

-But that won’t stop me from buying another OT and PT figure, especially Luke Skywalker…granted he needs to be made WELL like Mando Luke of course…

…but the misfire and character assassination we witnessed of Luke in TLJ (and general destruction of the franchise), and if we’re going by the logic some have proposed here, it’d be pointless to feel any excitement for any figures from the PT and OT. But I’ve learned to do one thing my friend taught me: canon is what YOU decide is canon, and no one can tell you any different.

And that approach has allowed me to buy EXO6’s TNG Picard, InArt’s Superman, HT’s Mando Luke, EP2 Anakin, an assortment of Transformers etc etc etc.

Year after year I’m watching in real time the slow destruction of my favorite franchises. If I let the ‘studios’ dictate for me what is canon, I promise, my wallet would be much fatter, my shelves would be empty and my wife and 1 yr old would love me more…

…ok I made up the last part. But still, I won’t let a ‘crappy’ or controversial second movie deter me from enjoying certain pieces of merchandise.

Bob Ross puts it best: it’s your world.

I agree there’s nothing inherently wrong with being turned off by a sequel thus affecting one’s decision in buying something. I just feel it’s putting limits on ‘yourself’.

Sure, but it’d been another thing entirely if The Last Jedi were exactly the same, but ended with “DIRECTED BY GEORGE LUCAS”.

It’s easy to dissociate the Disney stuff from the non-Disney stuff.

Agreed. I feel like the SW comparison doesn't really work here for JP Joker.

But hey, I'm not one tell folks not to buy this version. Just sharing my meager thoughts in agreement with the few that no longer want this character.

Excellent point. I still think there’s still some wiggle room though-

we already knew the pretentious nature of the director, particularly with regards to merchandise. If you, Todd Philips, are gonna hold the fans/viewers in such contempt and make a sequel with the sole purpose to insult us because your ‘artistic a-hole’ side felt like it…well, then I won’t acknowledge the sequel you tried to shove down our throats. It’s as simple as that.

To be honest, I would’ve been shocked if the sequel had been an actual follow up, with a solid story…basically NOT what we got 🤣

I like this guy but not enough to spend that much on this one so I'm building my own one so far I got the clothes and the head. Got the body on the way. This is the head I picked up definitely going to have to yell the hair and trim it a little bit so it's not so frazzled but I don't think this is a bad head scope at least I'm happy with it anyway.

Got my 4 pack into today and the box is absolutely massive, going to be busy tomorrow . im one of few who actually enjoyed the second, i went in with very low expectations based on what we heard but i still enjoyed it, not only that it doesn’t sour my taste for him in the collection whatsoever, this was my movie of the year in 2019 and this is exactly what this figure represents to me.

The ending is what I liked about the movie. It's up for interpretation and critique. On one hand he is THE Joker, but on the other hand, he is not because he rejects it in the end. However, he started something that can't be taken back because society related to his situation. The way I see it is that the Joker is a generic term for the downtrodden in society; an idea. Everyone is a potential Joker because the Joker is an idea brought on by the terrible nature of society.

I have the 4 pack on order and plan to keep it.

It is expensive, though, lol.

I didn’t elaborate my comment where I called him a “loser” lol, but I’ll stand by that assessment. Imo, characters can be flawed or unlikeable, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make great characters. I guess that’s how I feel about Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck/The Joker.

I honestly don’t solely buy 1/6 figures of characters I find to be cool or resonate with, cause I like to represent films/moments/IPs, and I want to represent Joker (2019). I may not wholly “like” this character per se, like I do others, but I can confidently say that I love the costume design, the film is great and that Phoenix’s performance was amazing.
