I’ve wanted an Indiana Jones figure for my office for years but was personally never happy with what was on offer so I decided to make one myself. This figure is all hand sculpted in Zbrush, resin printed on an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra. The head is silicone with glass eyes, hands are silicone aswell. The figure itself is 65cm tall + hardwood base.
One main point for me when doing this model was to avoid the, as I call it, Thunderbirds effect. I wanted the scale and detailing of all the clothing to be scale correct for the height of the figure. I think I have achieved that. I have never been a fan of oversized zips or stitching or fabric being too large. I totally get the ‘real material’ positives for collectable figures but if its in a display case behind glass and the closest you are ever going to get to him is 30/40cm. My hope is this model with all the fabric detailing sculpted in, once painted it will look just as good as real materials only scale correct. Fingers crossed So yeah, I want to paint him next.
The face has already had a paint pass done but I’m debating with myself whether to go further.
Its so hard to photograph, well with my camera anyway. Its not the best, hence the video for the face. I felt it gave a better impression of seeing it in person compared to stills.
I am hoping, by throwing it out to this community, I can get some feedback before I finalise everything. If anyone could please point out any huge errors I might have done or Raiders specific elements I have missed I would appreciate it. I’ve paid special attention to model his Raiders specific outfit. Raiders jacket with leather detailing on his right collar bone area. Hat turn, proper Raiders bag, trousers, belts etc.
I have always felt the Indy figures available have never achieved the sense of material weight that you see in the films. The way the bag strap pulls down over his shirt pulling it tight across his chest. The holster strap tightly affixed around his crotch folds the trouser fabric in certain ways. 1/6 figures made from real materials never achieve this imo because such small amounts of materials simply don’t have any weight to them. Even the 1/3 JND statue doesn’t give the impression of weight. Those type of details really sell the realism of the figure to me. I think I’ve captured that.
Anyway enough going on. I hope you like it. I had real fun sculpting the face. Please forgive the slightly strange grey colour shift across the printed resin. Not sure what’s caused that. Once I’m happy with this I’m going to mould all the parts and cast him in poly resin for painting and display.
Thanks
