Here on the Perimeter
AH - FIRMATIFF!!!
First look Pics of my Sovereign Studios Newt with FML repaint. She just got off the plane and has not been futzed with but I thought I'd share a few pics and my Review for you Guys.
First Off, let me say, I have wanted a Newt figure for the longest time. This is why and how this project got started and I can't thank Shawn enough for taking on this task. Like I said, much pain and frustration has beset me in my Quest for a Newt. Les Walker made the First Ever Newt and it was superb of course and the only Newt ever made at the time. I was so taken by it I wanted to start collecting clothes for my own Custom Newt. I even made an early Sunday morning trip out to the Los Feliz Toys R'Us just to hunt for the overalls and My car blew a fuel pump on the way back, in heavy traffic! And there I was, stranded on Los Feliz Blvd with a dead car. I ended up pushing it into a driveway and waited 2 hours for AAA with a very nice Hispanic Family who were having a yard sale. 2 1/2 hours later My car was towed and No I didn't find that overalls outfit.
So here we come, full circle, 2 years later... anyway, that is the kind of passion and effort I exhausted trying to get a Newt made, so Shawn and Les -- Cheers to you my Friends.
Now on to my Review...
Let me say this upfront NOW. The outfit and detail Shawn put into this outfit is next to none. From the overalls material to the buckles, shoes, straps, weathering, shirt coloring, frayed knee and elbow holes, you will NEVER see a hand made Film Accurate outfit like this again. It rises above Hot Toys quality, seriously... the Overalls actually feel like denim. The shoes are great as well, everything, top to bottom is film Accurate and detailed to the max.
This outfit Shawn made is a Tour De force, no 2 ways about it.
The mego body is absolutely perfect for this figure! We have Les Walker, again, to thank for that as his First ever Newt used this body and it was Les who recommended it for this project. This, as you all know, was a major obstacle to get this project rolling. Now, WHAM, it is perfect.
The first thing that hit me when I removed Les' tissue from the head was the HAIR. There is a lot of it and it demands attention because it looks absolutely real. The Coloring is pitch perfect. Shawn somehow made this stuff out of his bag 'o tricks and it is perfect for this figure, In fact I think it makes the figure to be quite honest because it defines Newt as a character. The hair itself is not that futzable as I think Shawn shaped it with dabs of superglue or something but it can be manipulated and the shades of blonde coloring couldn't be more beautiful and accurate...
YOU GUYS NOT GETTING REAL HAIR ARE CRAAZY.
As many of you Know Les painted mine, he's painted ALL my Aliens figures (since CustoMikey did my First Apone fig, and did a great job!) and I wanted my line to be consistent and he is the best there is so he gracefully accepted and Shawn was cool with it. The sculpt is much better in hand than any of these pictures could capture. You all know the story, better in hand. I love her little forehead and pouting expression as that was Newt. Shawn chose this expression wisely... I still DO believe there could have been more "plump" sculpted into her cheeks, but Honestly as far as the overall figure is concerned, it is a minor nit. I just love the childlike quality of this character and thought that may have been compromised a bit but with the proper paint apps it is NOT a concern.
Having a Casey head is a real bonus as Casey was a metaphor for Newt going back to her original Lineage in "THEM" so it serves her well and Shawn did an incredible job sculpting this tiny little doll head, and he painted it so great too, and it fits right in scale with Newt's hands.
The Wrist Locator was Wor-Gar's suggestion, another great accessory to have and it has Never been made before so this is the only wrist locator there is and looks cool on her. An important accessory so we all owe Wor-Gar and Shawn for making that happen.
So, pictures.... I took a few right out of the box but it shows enough to hold you guys before I post some with Ripley and the Marines, so here's a few to whet your appetite.
Again, no futzing done with hair or anything else... the fun of this hair is some will want to mess it up a bit, maybe dirty up her face, but I asked Les for minimal dirtyin'. Anyway, here goes. Enjoy!
Casey, floating in the water. This pic is a bit washed out by sunlight.
A few unposed shots of her lying down...
Previous pic cropped and enlarged...
Over all, is this figure Worth getting?
