AH - FIRMATIFF!!!

First look Pics of my Sovereign Studios Newt with FML repaint. She just got off the plane and has not been futzed with but I thought I'd share a few pics and my Review for you Guys.

First Off, let me say, I have wanted a Newt figure for the longest time. This is why and how this project got started and I can't thank Shawn enough for taking on this task. Like I said, much pain and frustration has beset me in my Quest for a Newt. Les Walker made the First Ever Newt and it was superb of course and the only Newt ever made at the time. I was so taken by it I wanted to start collecting clothes for my own Custom Newt. I even made an early Sunday morning trip out to the Los Feliz Toys R'Us just to hunt for the overalls and My car blew a fuel pump on the way back, in heavy traffic! And there I was, stranded on Los Feliz Blvd with a dead car. I ended up pushing it into a driveway and waited 2 hours for AAA with a very nice Hispanic Family who were having a yard sale. 2 1/2 hours later My car was towed and No I didn't find that overalls outfit.

So here we come, full circle, 2 years later... anyway, that is the kind of passion and effort I exhausted trying to get a Newt made, so Shawn and Les -- Cheers to you my Friends. :duff

Now on to my Review...

Let me say this upfront NOW. The outfit and detail Shawn put into this outfit is next to none. From the overalls material to the buckles, shoes, straps, weathering, shirt coloring, frayed knee and elbow holes, you will NEVER see a hand made Film Accurate outfit like this again. It rises above Hot Toys quality, seriously... the Overalls actually feel like denim. The shoes are great as well, everything, top to bottom is film Accurate and detailed to the max.

This outfit Shawn made is a Tour De force, no 2 ways about it.

The mego body is absolutely perfect for this figure! We have Les Walker, again, to thank for that as his First ever Newt used this body and it was Les who recommended it for this project. This, as you all know, was a major obstacle to get this project rolling. Now, WHAM, it is perfect.

The first thing that hit me when I removed Les' tissue from the head was the HAIR. There is a lot of it and it demands attention because it looks absolutely real. The Coloring is pitch perfect. Shawn somehow made this stuff out of his bag 'o tricks and it is perfect for this figure, In fact I think it makes the figure to be quite honest because it defines Newt as a character. The hair itself is not that futzable as I think Shawn shaped it with dabs of superglue or something but it can be manipulated and the shades of blonde coloring couldn't be more beautiful and accurate...

YOU GUYS NOT GETTING REAL HAIR ARE CRAAZY. :lol

As many of you Know Les painted mine, he's painted ALL my Aliens figures (since CustoMikey did my First Apone fig, and did a great job!) and I wanted my line to be consistent and he is the best there is so he gracefully accepted and Shawn was cool with it. The sculpt is much better in hand than any of these pictures could capture. You all know the story, better in hand. I love her little forehead and pouting expression as that was Newt. Shawn chose this expression wisely... I still DO believe there could have been more "plump" sculpted into her cheeks, but Honestly as far as the overall figure is concerned, it is a minor nit. I just love the childlike quality of this character and thought that may have been compromised a bit but with the proper paint apps it is NOT a concern.

Having a Casey head is a real bonus as Casey was a metaphor for Newt going back to her original Lineage in "THEM" so it serves her well and Shawn did an incredible job sculpting this tiny little doll head, and he painted it so great too, and it fits right in scale with Newt's hands.

The Wrist Locator was Wor-Gar's suggestion, another great accessory to have and it has Never been made before so this is the only wrist locator there is and looks cool on her. An important accessory so we all owe Wor-Gar and Shawn for making that happen.

So, pictures.... I took a few right out of the box but it shows enough to hold you guys before I post some with Ripley and the Marines, so here's a few to whet your appetite.

Again, no futzing done with hair or anything else... the fun of this hair is some will want to mess it up a bit, maybe dirty up her face, but I asked Les for minimal dirtyin'. Anyway, here goes. Enjoy!

Here's one more pic to illustrate a point "In Context."

Newt alone is a great figure, but -- and Shawn and I think Les have said this to me privately, when she is posed with other figures she actually displays EVEN better. Here is a shot with some of the Marines.

It's like magic. Newt alone vs Newt with Crew suddenly takes on a whole new feel and look because she is "In Context". She belongs. Anyway, wanted to point that out. I will get to other ALIENS pics with Newt and Ripley in a few days...

damn !. It looks amazing ! :rock
Thanks for the review and photos pjam , much appreciated. :rock

I can't wait to get her now !
Everything about this think is fantastic !.

Brilliant job Shaun. :rock:rock2

And remember, kids... I'm getting even better at working with my new "secret recipe" hair....:lol :chew :chew

I really like the way these are turning out. I don't have any Marines, but I might make myself a Newt just because I like this hair so much.

Your Newt looks AMAZING Shawn! :monkey5 I made one from a 1:6 scale Anakin Skywalker last year. I am still proud of it, but your Newt blows mine away. I still want to get the full figure from you. I'm sorry I haven't been able to pay you for it yet. How much would both the rooted hair head, and the molded cast hair head be? I recall you said a "few more bucks" for both. Please let me know here, or send me a PM about it. I need the full figure from you since I don't have a male Mego body. Thanks again! I'll pay you as soon as I can.

Oh yeah, Newt looks incredible with the Les Walker paintjob too! I love it! I'm fortunate to have some pieces from him, and will get more stuff from him someday soon. He truly is a master!

AMAZING!

NEWT looks simply outstanding! Kudos to Shawn for this figure: the hair is a thing of beauty, the clothing looks dead-on, and the sculpt really turned out fantastic. Every detail is there, including those little sneakers!

Love it!

Yes indeed. And thanks everyone for your comments. Actually those little Adidas shoes aren't just painted two tone sneakers, the darker gray areas are a molded piece over the lighter area. Another little detail.

Shawn even cut a slit in the side of the overalls (cuff area) like the film worn outfit. Remember those ref prop stills we used? That seems like forever ago.

We have to thank Harry Harris for those ref images.

Thanks for all the kudos, guys! Much appreciated. Actually, pjam the sneakers are painted:lol They're cast in black latex, the grey ares are painted.

The figure is base priced at $110.00, with either head. An extra head (either version) is $30.00.

Dayum, Shawn! You really did a first rate job on Newt. I can hardly wait for mine own to arrive! :chew :chew :chew

Just wondering, but is there any chance she might be ready around the end of August? I'd love to be able to take her with me when I leave the states again in early September! :D

Sean, unbelievable work man!! i am seriously considering getting this now!!!

There both simply amazing. If its ok I will have to pay on Sunday. Since were in different time frames I will let you know when its in.
Thanks again Shaun for this amazing figure. :rock

My pleasure, Reiny. No-one will ever make a Complete Custom 1/6 Newt available to purchase IMO and, as you all can see, NO Aliens collection is complete without representing such an important character in this Classic Film. And you Guys haven't even seen pics of her with Rip-leeeeeeee!

And I think it's a Tribute to this Board that the only one you can have made is right here on the SSF Board.

Get you one Reiny, she'll look awesome when displayed with your set in your State of the Art Display Room. Then get a Bishop and you're all good. :D

But I want a Gorman, Burke and Ferro now too... :lol

More pics to come... later this week. Good Stuff!

And Guys, For the Love of God, get a Rooted hair head too. :D

Burke wouldn't be hard, just need a head and that flannel shirt... vest is an option. But what might be really cool would be a "Cocooned" Burke holding a grenade... hehehe

Gorman, no sweat if you can find the right hat and jacket, which Shawn could make. But I think a Bishop would be the most important figure to add to your Guys' Collection first. I know it was for me anyway. :D

I will try to post a new "Group Shot" by tomorrow...

I changed my hair preference to rooted. The first version of the hair didn't do anything for me, but the new version is quite nice, and I normally hate rooted hair.

usmchicks.... no problem!

By the way, guys I was watching ALIENS last night and decided on a new project from the movie I think many of you will like. STAY TUNED!
