Re: 1/6 COMMANDO/RED HEAT/DIE HARD2 ~ elämän merimies WIP Custom kitbash
just finished this... small practice run as I'm still waiting 4 parts to my next (biker! cough, cough...) few projects.
this bash is nothing that special really... so, I think I wont be posting it to the frontpage. mainly because everything essential to the character is made by HT.
body is a customised CmToys HJ002-rubberbody, custom cloth boots (not that accurate, but I thought it was a nice touch) and socks.
a few words I feel I need to share about the body...
first-of-all, to me the rubber feels somehow different from HT rubberbodies, cant really specify how, but very probably a different mixture? hopefully one that will prove very durable over time... the rubber seems to get dented fairly easy under pressure (via stand hooks/head giving pressure to the neck etc.), but it also tends to bounce back quite effortlesly (fully in a day or two).
anyhow... straight out-the-box the body looks a bit comical to say the least... very, very slim vaist, shoulders seem too protruding from the body, maybe a tad too long feet etc. etc. the overall body proportions just seem to be a bit off, somehow... but still, it is a sight for sore eyes to see one after so long.
IMO seamless rubberbodies are very underrated in this hobby nowadays, but I for one are all for them. mainly because of the obvious, the seamless look achieves a much more realistic look for any figure w/ exposed skin.
there's a lot of talk about the ristrictions rubber makes for the posing, but if you take a look at the HT hirshute bodies (TTM-19 etc.) the posing limitations are about the same? you cannot bend an arm over 90 degrees because of the elbow joints? the chest restricts arm movement inwards? etc. etc. the only real enhancement is the shoulder joint, as any type of posing wont result in damage under the armpits...
but moving along. the detereoration/tearing of the rubber... I've had absolutely no problems with that what so ever. MAINLY BECAUSE I FOLLOW THE RULES STATED IN THE INSTRUCTION SHEET. I really do hope HT re-issues the Leonidas body somehow, because that was pure perfection in this sense.
but back to the subject in hand. w/ a few tweaks (buffing the body wider, shortening feet pegs... and with some heads I'm pretty sure you will need to chop some rubber off the neck) this is a very nice body... atleast for the $60 I paid.
the one really BIG issue is that I am fairly certain the skintone will not match anything made by HT, ever. it's a closer match to DX04 and TTM-19, but still just a bit too light for those aswell. this is the more tanned one of the two caucasian types awailable and still the HT ROCKY III -head is too dark (like he would be exhausted or somethn) and orange(?) for it. but at this time I really dont mind that much. I'm just glad to finally have this franchise (I've been lacking) in my collection...
also should mention the veins/blood vessels, as I was a bit worried about them myself before ordering... to me it seems the sculptor went a little overboard w/ them. in photos the veins look really apparent/highlighted, but are much more tolerable in-hand... but everyhere. IMO less is more. they should've been toned down a little to achieve a more realistic look.
overall I think HJ002 is a very nice rubber body that w/ a few tweaks from the manufacturer coud've been perfect.
this bash makes me want to get Drago even more... I have a few enhancement/customising ideas for that one in my head, already.
