Ah ok! That makes perfect sense. Do you think that perhaps spraying the belt's backside with dull coat finish would help keep it from flaking?

Maybe. Though mine's okay now it's on the figure.

Might also be able to sandpaper it smooth to get rid of the excess bits?

Here’s my Jager head sculpt on a grenadier. I’ve changed the jacket, head and boots on the tank commander. I just need his collar tabs to finish. I wanted to buy the Brown Arts tanker boots but ended up cutting down an old pair of jack boots.

Looks like him, he's been in a lot of WW2 era films like the pianist but was the lead character in the 1993 Stalingrad movie one of my favourites definitely recommend if you have not seen it.

Same guy but with a beard, is it not!!!
One figure is called Erwin the other figure is Johann. Maybe one is early film sculpt the 2nd bearded is later film sculpt.

Here is a comparison of the two figures headsculpts I have spliced down the middle and put side by side...

Perhaps thats what it is? Dont know....
Always thought the Johann figure was awesome - the Erwin figure is "good" in my opinion. Would buy the head to use as a custom - but no interest in the set.
Cant remember any scene in Das Boot (original) where this look appears?
