The 60th anniversary specials and christmas special all had good ratings along with being well received by fans, the new doctor is well liked by most, the show is being produced by a new team with a bigger budget than ever, and they've said they havent even started up the marketing machine yet (which they're reserving for the actual series 1 relaunch later this year). Plus, the show will be more easily accessible than ever, streaming on disney plus all over the world.

Doctor Who is most certainly in a much better position now than it has been the past few years. Only time will tell how well this relaunch will perform, but there's very little reason for pessimism right now unless you're a fan of youtube videos with a lot of bold text, photoshopped angry faces, and questionable sources.

With the show seemingly set to return to the public consciousness in a big way later this year, and the previous license holder now being out of the picture, I do think the stage is set for another company to step in. But Doctor Who is not historically a big merchandise cash cow in general, so it's up in air whether another company will find it worth the effort.

ThreeZero has been pushing harder into this market lately with some more obscure figures, this could be a great one for them to pick up. Plus their typical quality is higher than Big Chief ever was and at a lower price too.

But even if not, my curiosity turns toward unlicensed third parties, because they're pumping out more obscure figures constantly. Soosootoys, Toys Battalion, Toys Era, more and more of these are popping up and I'm just waiting for one of them to pick up the slack. There's a lot of unhappy big chief customers that got hung out to dry, wanting to buy figures that never came...

No one wants DR. Woke era figures ... it's beyond dead Jim !

Third party is our only hope left...

Unless INART come good and unveil the proto for a Tom Baker deluxe. Two heads,-one neutral-one smiling, rooted curly hair, moveable eyes,Two fedoras-one brown-one green, safari jacket from season 12 and tweed coat from 13. Finished off with a Tardis console room diorama:love:

Sad that no third parties have swooped in to take advantage of the vacuum here. I was so excited to get the longer haired 12th Doctor with guitar, and possibly the Delgado Master as well. My display case remains who-less. That new 12th doctor was going to be my first big chief figure, instead I just got scammed.

However considering the show is getting a big relaunch on Disney Plus in a few months with a new Season 1 (tv is like comics now!), I wonder if that could lead to a revival in interest in products like this.

I would think so- before, unless you specifically had BBC it was hard to watch- Disney access would seem to make the entire series more accessible and presumably a lot more fans and a lot of people who were fans and who have come back due to access...

It's really a perfect time for a new company to come in and pick up the license...

But did they? The general consensus I've seen was that the specials were received as mixed at best (with many of the complaints centered around heavy handed political messaging), and the Christmas special with 15 very mediocre, with no one seeming particularly excited about the new Doctor. While Tennant definitely gave the show a small boost, the ratings weren't anything to write home about, let alone anything special that should have come from the return of the most beloved modern Doctor. Only time will tell how Ncuti does, but I wouldn't in any way say that the show is in a great place, and still a very very long way away from the cultural powerhouse it was a decade ago. Frankly the idea that the show is strong enough in its current incarnation to launch this massive shared universe of shows seems somewhere between wishful thinking and delusion.

The show being on Disney+ may make it more accessible, but it won't matter if no one cares enough to watch it.

I try to be an open-minded person, and I even found some of the 13 episodes acceptable, but the Christmas Special--this one even more than any other before--was just a bridge too far. The Disney effect is already apparent, with a Broadway musical interlude and over selling what was generally fairly subtle under the BBC (that last bit where they tried to "reintroduce the wonder" was entirely too long and overdone...poorly). And Davies socio-political beliefs were never more sharply evident without benefit of a sharp, witty storyline to back it up. I hope for the sake of the franchise it gets better and less like a Disney princess slamming us with an anvil made up of hot air and rhetoric. I've made it all this far without completely giving up but this one just didn't work for me at all, and I really hope they listen for once what fans are saying and don't let the Mouse run all over them like they tend to do with other franchises.

Being on D+ is no guarantee to success, that channel has yet to turn a profit and the largest of franchises have languished there. The most successful show on D+ apparently is Bluey, another import that Disney has nothing to do with creatively speaking. If Dr. Who were a success you can bet Disney would push for marketing and merch in the stores/online (not sure if they get any kickback on that with the new deal).

I was looking for information about the 4th Dr figure and whatever happened when I stumbled across this thread. I am not the biggest Dr. Who fan, but always liked #4 and had it on order at one point from Sideshow. Had no idea BCS had melted down and ran off with peoples money. The Abominable Bride figures are two of my favorites in my collection. Sorry to see another company bite the dust and take peoples money with them.

I'm still disappointed that BCS didn't manage to get the season 18 version of Tom into production before they went bust😞

The great man turned 90 this month and it would have been a nice release to celebrate the occasion.

He's looking very frail now though, bless him.

One of the very best Doctors !

Anyone know what scale is the Eaglemoss Mega K9? It looks a lot bigger than 1:6. Maybe 1:4 or 1:3? I have box dimensions but as we all know the shipper is by no means a good judge. Some pieces are packed tight while others have so many parts they're spread all over the box and take up a lot more room.
