Character Options have announced that they will discontinue their 1:6 line in Doctor Who because in "hindsight" its more of a collector's market than a children's toy market.

Any chance in a time locked Gallifrey that Sideshow can pick up this license from under Character Options (similar to their arrangement with Hasbro on the Star Wars license)?

This is a market waiting to be tapped!

Would you like it to focus on old, new, or both?

What would the optimal first 5 figures be?

I would say make it all inclusive. Not a Nu-Who vs. Classic. Just "Doctor Who".

First five:

1) David Tennant (to replace the ok CO version)
2) Cyberman (Silver Nemesis)
3) New Series Dalek
4) Rose
5) Season 13 Tom Baker

Good list, though with SSC you'd be waiting a long time for Dalek and Cyberman considering they won't crank out a C-3PO and R2.

In that case replace them with a Zygon and a Deadly Assassin Master. I Know Sidehow would make gold on those. :rock

Sadly we won't ever see a Rose as BP refuses to sign off her likeness anymore. But that is a good list. If anything though I would say do:

10
Donna
Destiny 4th Doctor
Romana
Sea Devil

This is something I would love to see happen. Even if we got the Doctors and some core villians.

Billie Piper really pisses me off with the whole likeness thing. Doctor Who was what raised her profile in the first place.

At this point in time I don't think Sideshow are the company to do a Doctor Who line.
Some of the costumes such as the 6th Doctor's are very elaborate and need quality fabrics and a level of tailoring that I don't think Sideshow knows exists.
If their Star Wars line is any indication I really don't want a set of Doctors with the same zombie like facial expression and piss poor production paint or have to wait years for Daleks,Cybermen or other "difficult" characters because Sideshow fob us off with lame excuses until they finally go running to Hot Toys for help.
On the other hand if they did get Hot Toys to do most of the work the line could be a much better prospect providing of course the figures didn't get subjected to Sideshow's bait & switch policy of showing great protos then delivering a production piece that sucks balls.
I couldn't give a crap about anything from Nu-Who ( I already have a 9th Doctor custom in the works ) so my choice for the first 5 figures would be all Classic,

1.4th Doctor
2.Sarah Jane Smith
3.3rd Doctor
4.The Brigadier
5.Count Scarlioni/Scaroth

MY PICKS....

trennant (9th doctor)
martha jones
Jack Harkness (and yes, his original Torchwood crew as well)
baker (4th doctor)
8th doctor
sarah jane smith
master
brigadier

Would love to see the classic 4 and villains
William Hartnell - Cyberman
Patrick Troughton - Yeti
Jon Pertwee - The Master ( Delgado)
Tom Baker - The K1 robot

I'd be thrilled just to have every Doctor. And maybe a Jack Harkness.

THRILLED, you hear me?

I would give good money to have a decent 12" Dr. Who line!! It's such a popular show, so long running...you have young and old people alike who would love to have "their" Doctor made.

As for which ones to do first...I'd go with newer ones just because that market is so hot right now. Nine, Ten, the Master, Donna, Martha, plus some amazing creatures, aliens and robots.

But one thing that all us sweaty little Wholigans would love to have...a 1/6 scale TARDIS! How hard would that rock my world?

It's a pity there's no UK equivalent to Hot Toys or Sideshow. I've just resigned myself to making customs.
