I've been on the fence with this figure for a while - the rubber and limited articulation has been putting me off. But I just picked it up from the Go Figure stand at the Supa Nova convention in Melbourne, Australia for $260 AUD!! Its normally about $380 AUD - so the big saving made me feel a whole lot less reluctant about its issues.

Can't wait to open it up and have a play

So, my general feelings about this figure seem pretty much in line with most others - the sculpt is lovely, but the extremely limited articulation is really disappointing and I'm concerned about the longevity of the rubber - but I love Aliens and am still really happy to have this in my collection ;)

I would much prefer however for future Hot Toys Aliens to sacrifice the 'seamless' look (kind of an oxymoronic idea for a character so covered in lines...) for jointed limbs that allow full poseability!

That's precisely the stupidity of this figure. It's one character where joints don't really stand out anyway so why the need to go seamless?

I can only think they want to differentiate from NECA and 'feel' more high-end.

True. I was tossing up between the Neca 1/4 scale version and this one. Not 100% sure that I made the right choice ;) But, the price that I got it for on the day made me decide to chance it - despite the known limitations.

I still can't justify getting this. For a figure that will essentially have ZERO accessories, they could have made up for the lack of that, by making sure the POSEABILITY of this thing is the real key feature thing. With only mediocre static poses at best, despite it's looks for the price, to me it's just not worth it. Now if it were only $135 or $150 it'd be a different story, even with the limited poseability, but for 250, and essentially NOTHING it comes with (ooh acid splatters and pointless if you have no marines!) poseability could have made up for it at that price. Hell the alien girl has better poseability that this, that's pretty sad.

Would people recommend this figure? I really want a representation of the xenomorph in my 1/6 collection. I dont really care about the lack of articulation, but the rubber degeneration is something I read about. Is this a common problem? Is it worth the risk?

My thoughts exactly!! I really want a good xenomorph in my collection especially with my predators but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on this. As good as it looks, it is totally ruined by the lack of pose ability. Its like having a Lamborghini that has a governor that won't let you go past 45mph. What the hell is the point!!!!

Hi don't buy it,the rubber on my alien is deteriorating waste of money, dam hot toys they should refund my money but they just ignore me.

Where, and how badly? What stance is it displayed in, and in what conditions? Any pics? Let's get to the bottom of this.

If you don't mind the lack of articulation I would definitely recommend it. Looks good on display. Just don't use the extended jaw as that's where the thin rubber is... pretty stupid adding a function that can't be used. Interchangeable jaws would have been the way to go.

Hi, the rubber deterioration is around his mouth area. I ve opened and closed his mouth around 6 times since I ve had him, but mouth stays closed all the time. To be honest I never touch my figures, I just put them in display. As for the conditions of the weather of my county, we are just heading into summer, it has been mild all year about 20 - 25 degrees Celsius. Now it will get warmer since it's sunny. Anyways my point is, you are finding faults from other reasons why this is happening but it really comes down to Hot Toys putting faulty products into the market, selling at high prices. With absolutely no return or customer care. I bought the figure directly from Hong Kong - eBay seller - Timcent.

Gotcha. That sucks, my friend. Agreed, there's no denying HT and their material choices are the main culprit. But at least knowing the conditions for potential decay will help prevent it to a certain extent.

The Big Chap I have has had some thin looking rubber around the jaws for years now, but still hasn't fully deteriorated. I also recommend this figure. Despite the limited mobility, it is still an extremely nice looking piece. And your Aliens display is incomplete without it.

If you put it in a relatively conservative pose, mouth closed and behind glass doors and don't play with it, surely the material wouldn't deteriorate on its own?!

How's the rubber and paint holding up on this guy for people? Who's had him the longest, what's the climate, etc.?

So few high-end Alien figure offerings to choose from, I feel I might as well try for this guy. My poses aren't too extreme anyhow.

Hey I've had this fella since he came out. Mine is in the usual kind of display, nothing fancy. As for climate I'm in Vancouver so not too far north from you maybe a difference of a few degrees and overall similar climate. I've never had a hot toy deteriorate on me so far, including this guy. Even my gamora is still holding up.

And don't worry even if you wanted to extreme pose him you can't =P

But he looks bloody fantastic, the sculpt and paint are so detailed, completely worth it IMO

Appreciate the info. :) My only concern is little spots where the paint may flake. My Big Chap had that problem and while I was able to accept it seven years ago, I'm far too obsessive these days to endure that possibility.

Hola fellow Vancouverian!

Glad to hear your figure is holding up, been debating the one we have at my work for a while now.... may pick it up as a Halloween gift to myself.

I just opened this piece and I can't figure out how do you keep the inner jaw to stay out? The sliding knob on the back of its head seems spring loaded, and when I release it, the jaw goes back inside the mouth.
