This is a really impressive figure, every time I see new pictures and video of him I think he looks even more impressive. Case in point with BrooklynWolf's video and MasterRazzzerz's pictures above. Obviously the head sculpt is really impressive, but my goodness they really captured that hood down look as he just tore through the Dark Troopers. This is a really special release.

The shape is slightly similar, but look at the nostrils in relation to the eye. The ugly open predatory mouth version’s nose sticks out more, and it’s one of the reasons why that sculpt never looked right.

I’ve seen people mod the mouth closed…but it STILL looked ugly🤢🤢🤮🤮

Yeah we're more than covered with Lukes and OT Han's been left out in the ice plains of Hoth. If there is no Han announced in the next few months, that will pretty much prove there is some kind of issue with HF - with no new OT Han in years, this is THE time for it.

Though a 40th ROTJ Luke is 10,000% certain (straight re-release of earlier DX but with this new face sculpt).

My guess is it'll be Jedi Luke, reveal Vader/Anakin,Palps re-release, and royal guard re-release. The massive question: will there be one all-new figure like Snowspeeder Luke?

Sadly most of the younger Luke’s are recycled with SLIGHTLY different paintwork. This is the only one that I’d be open for recycling because of the portrait, ERS. Just need a sterner expression.

Still not sure what you mean by that. This is the ROTJ sculpt pic's eye and nostril simply dragged over and superimposed on the Mando's - the nostrils in relation to the eye looks pretty similar to me.

.....and I think this completely boring but oh-so-Freaks conversation probably needs to end here. :rotfl

Here this is what I meant:

Everything from the corner of the nostrils and down are pushed forward, giving him a rat like profile, and one of the reasons why even looking at him from the front he looked awkward.

EDIT-with the line on the left shifted ever so slightly to match the line on the right.

Anyhow, the new sculpt is going to be hard to get ahold of. This thing will disappear within seconds on TA. I know I want one. Not sure I'm willing to buy the whole figure to get one though.

Nosegate II: Electric Boogaloo

The proportions and positioning between the eyes and nose is very similar, sure. But.. so is almost every figure/human being. There are naturally going to be similarities drawn when they’ve been produced by the same company for the same actor. But the shape of the entire nose is different from the bridge to the tip, and from every angle you can easily make out the sheer asperity of ROTJ’s - the old Luke could probably sense the good in Vader with his schnoz alone.

The stronger cheeks, less intense eye depth, and sharper eyebrows on Mando’s all play into how the entirety of the face is perceived, which-along with whatever else they’ve done-has increased the likeness substantially. While individually subtle, the changes are pretty substantial in helping make the Mando sculpt look far less… Gamorrean
It’s funny, I was literally going to post saying the same thing about the cheeks, eye depth, and eyebrows.

It’s always interesting when a new figure comes out and we get to see how everyone sees things differently, so I enjoyed that those things also stood out to me, and that the same things did to someone else as well.

Weirdly, the first release ROTJ Luke and the Deluxe version obviously share the same sculpt, but when I compare those two in person, the Deluxe version looks better to me.
I’ve spent hours and hours staring at pictures of Mark Hamill while painting a portrait of him (my proudest moment professionally was Mark Hamill liking my portrait and saying good on Twitter 🤣😅), and the new sculpt immediately jumps out at me as better than older one.
I don’t mean that in any way to imply that I’m an expert or to invalidate anyone else’s opinion on them either, I’ll just always think it’s interesting how different one thing can look to different people. It’s something that I often have to consider when painting portraits, what are my subject’s distinct facial features, and what are the details that I specifically notice, and then how do
I weigh those differences in the portrayal?

The two facial profiles weren't aligned precisely though. If you simply rotate the ROTJ head a few degrees so the two face profiles align exactly, the line you showed in fact is pretty close to the same on both heads.

On the left I precisely pasted a trace of the Mando head profile hard up alongside the ROTJ head profile to make it 100% clear. Obviously the ROTJ head has the mouth slightly open, so its chin line sits slightly lower than the Mando head's closed-mouth chin line, and the jaw area of the face slopes away a bit more on the ROTJ because of this jaw position difference, and its upper lip is slightly further back/less puckered than Mando due to the open mouth.

The point I'm making is that even though there are very minor differences in facial structure (they depict the same character, but are two different sculpts,) the stark facial differences you seem to be suggesting just aren't there.

Both sculpts capture Mark Hamill really well - I can see how a few people have stated they prefer the ROTJ vs the vaguely CGI look of the Mando. I do prefer the close-mouth of the Mando too, but the (yes, slightly goofy) "slack jaw" of Mark Hamill often seen onscreen in ROTJ is pretty well captured in the ROTJ sculpt, so to me it's valid and even desirable dislpayed alongside the closed-mouth Mando sculpt (with the **** Mando hairsculpt swapped out of course.)

I may appear stubborn, but I’m really not 😅. looking at them in hand, ROTJ is clearly off (IMO). You make valid points, but that sculpt still gives me that rat look. Perhaps it’s the open mouth making the bottom lip/jaw sit further back? Either way, the middle section of his face protrudes a bit much.

Legit I’m not trying to be stubborn here 😅, but ROTJ Luke NEVER EVER looked right to me. Whenever I look at him, all I see is this:

As someone else pointed out, the profile looks like pre-accident Mark.

When you receive it in hand, I have a feeling you’ll notice it right away.

Seriously, have no idea why you posted that image. If that's what you're seeing I have no idea why I took this discussion seriously. :lol

I have 250 1/6 scale figures (many customs), been collecting 1/6 for 15+ years, have a degree in visual arts including sculpting and have worked in the arts all my life.... and I don't see what you're seeing (I also don't display any of my figs from the side view.)

"imo" is defo the thing we always gotta keep in mind, even if we believe we have definitive "proof" otherwise. The old saying about what opinions are like is true. We all got one of both, though yeah sometimes the two are more linked than we'd like to admit. :lol

I didn’t post that with the intention of insulting you man, apologies if it came off that way. I’m just trying to convey that is LITERALLY how I see that ROTJ face and that I seriously SERIOUSLY hated that figure to the bone.

The intro to my video is NOT hyperbolic. Luke is TRULY my fav hero of all time and that figure really bummed be the eff out. Took it out of its box and put it right back in and never looked back.

And honestly, don’t know why you listed your ‘accolades’ as to imply you have some authority in this matter? Legit don’t understand the point of that.

I mean. Ok? I’ve been collecting for 20+ years, I’m POSITIVE my collection eclipses yours because i have doubles of almost my entire collection with some triples here and there….ok, does that give me more credibility or something? I was a film major and have worked with cameras, lenses, lighting. And I draw, so I’ve studied faces, bodies, proportions etc. I also don’t display my figures from the side view.

Even as I list my “credentials”, I still don’t know what that accomplished.

I don’t doubt what you see. Im here sharing with you what I see. Lastly, i always do my best to say IMO. Because ultimately, it is an opinion after all.

It’s late for me, your post came off slightly combative so my reply may sound that way.

If your post wasn’t combative, then I misinterpreted it because I’m sleepy.
