I may appear stubborn, but I’m really not . looking at them in hand, ROTJ is clearly off (IMO). You make valid points, but that sculpt still gives me that rat look. Perhaps it’s the open mouth making the bottom lip/jaw sit further back? Either way, the middle section of his face protrudes a bit much.

Legit I’m not trying to be stubborn here , but ROTJ Luke NEVER EVER looked right to me. Whenever I look at him, all I see is this:

As someone else pointed out, the profile looks like pre-accident Mark.

When you receive it in hand, I have a feeling you’ll notice it right away.

Anyhow, the new sculpt is going to be hard to get ahold of. This thing will disappear within seconds on TA. I know I want one. Not sure I'm willing to buy the whole figure to get one though.

I pre-ordered Luke because I didn't want to take any chances on missing out on TA.
It helps that he also finally comes with various gloved hands, so when adding those up, adding shipping from TA to the Netherlands and the whole stress trying to get it all without getting cart-jacked, I figured just getting the figure and selling off the rest makes more sense.

I might use the remaining parts to make my own EU thrawn trilogy/dark empire inspired Luke, but I'll see once I have him in hand.

I’m pretty sure that Felinx doesn’t like the hair sculpt on this new Luke.
Just wanted to make sure ya’ll know.

Again, the new Luke Bespin with the same headsculpt ships in around three months (if the clone pilot is any indication, Luke Bespin will ship in late June,) and it's pretty much a dead certainty that the upcoming 40th ROTJ announcements will include a ROTJ Luke Jedi re-release with this new facesculpt (that fig should have a much shorter than normal PO-to-ship-date as a re-release), and those two releases will come with a hairsculpt/s that's not an abomination.

Given HT seems to produce Lukes in very large numbers (the Luke snowspeeder being the latest example of a far larger production number than most expected) early next year this head should be becoming more available at a reasonable price even on ebay.

So it's really just a matter of choice: pay more now to have it in hand a year earlier but being stuck with the crap hairsculpt (unless you have an extra ROTJ/ESB hairsculpt,) or waiting the year and paying closer to half the price plus having a usable hairsculpt included in the same price.

Well, the sculpt will certainly become a bit more available once Bespin Luke releases, but that's generally a lot of speculation in your post:

Bespin Luke will release in June - official HT date is Q3-Q4, and figures are rarely released ahead of schedule. And even then, if anything, that head will be even more sought after because of the improved hair

ROTJ Luke will be announced AND have a quick turn around time - both possible yeah, but especially the quick turn around time is a huge speculation; you might be looking at summer- fall next year.

Paying closer to half - "regular" HT heads already run $60 at TA. Mando Luke might be more because of the moveable eyes. Sculpts become more expensive over time, so you might be looking at $80+ for Bespin Luke, let alone the potential ROTJ Luke.

And finally, even if there are more Luke sculpts on the market, it's still hard to get one. Sculpts tend to sell out fast, especially if they can be used to upgrade old figures. By the time Bespin Luke releases, Mando Luke has already come and gone. Same for the potential ROTJ Luke.

Of course there will be more chances to get this sculpt in the future. But if you can get one now from TA, you will never get it faster and cheaper than this.

I do 100% agree that any future versions will have better hair sculpts than Mando Luke though.

Look no, to be fair Mattel did a nice job on it and I think paired with the dental-hygiene HT Endor Luke head it''ll nail the classic helmet-hair + lotsa teeth combo alongside Barbie.

Seriously though everyone......... all I'm saying is I wish the paint on it was a tad more chestnut, otherwise the shallow sculpt lines and delicate whisper of Bieber blowover totes works.

I think the better question isn’t WHAT would be included with RoTJ Luke 3.0 but instead “Will they just slap the DX22 head on the ROTJ body and call it a day??”

If doing so will shorten the turn around time, I’d rather the figure release much later with the DX body and newly tailored outfit.

And because of DX22, I went out and got the scout trooper speeder bike set for a decent discount. Along with the swoop bike seen in mando.

Luke isn’t synonymous with a bike of any kind…but i always imagined him being a bike riding kinda guy. Like many cool heroes: Kaneda from Akira, Cloud from FF7, Batman, Link in BoTW, and I’m sure I’m forgetting many others, but you get the gist.

The Endor bike from SSC is GODAWFUL. Had it stored away since I owned it for so many years, broke it out JUST to pose Luke on it and discovered how crappy it is.

And compared to HT bike…man I’m glad I went for it.

Anyways, when the swoop bike arrives, I wanna take some pics with Luke on either the swoop or new speeder bike. From him riding it on Endor, and seeing him stand next to one in Shadows of the empire (he WAS standing next to one in that cutscene with Dash right?? Or am I making that up??)…I think Luke could be that hero that rides a bike

Agreed on the SSC bike, but there's still a lot of inaccuracies on the HT bike (it's just a Mando-style bike with a handful of ROTJ fixes for maybe 1/2 the differences,) but I guess you live with them. I have the HT and SSC bikes side-by-side and they match up okay, but I did some modding on my SSC. That white bike is going for decent deals these days, may still pick one up as a snowtrooper ride.

And ooo.... SOTE (maybe that gets some love from HT as the 30th approaches.)

I’m one of those that wont notice inaccuracies with machines. As long as the general shape is there, feels good (though the HT one is EXTREMELY light and fragile feeling) and doesn’t break just by picking it up, then I’m satisfied.

The SSC one, the fins that you attach to the front…aren’t the pistons supposed to go all the way in? If yes, then my copy is flawed as hell as they don’t. when you look at the bike from the front, it’s a little warped as well. Generally ***tty feeling all around…I’d settle for inaccuracies over crappy QC.

As for SoTE…as much as I love the mando sculpt…I can only take so many recycles. I’d love to see Luke with that yellow vest and new portrait, as well as a dash rendar.

That is why I took him off my ROTJ 40th Anniversary list, don't think they'd want a ROTJ Jedi Luke up for order when the Mando one is still available.

If HT does a 40th anniversary ROTJ Luke, which I agree definitely seems likely, I expect they’d do a more throne room themed version.
If they’re going to re-issue the Emperor, that would fit better, and it would also be an extra layer of enticement for us all to buy another Luke.
