Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

:dunno
this figure is a fail from day one due to bad headsculpt.

I'm inclined to agree. Even the best of the sculpts, in retrospect, I may have over-praised due to how bad the first sculpt was. And then you've got that stick neck.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

At this point, I feel that Hot Toys simply revealed the sculpted hair sculpt at Toy Sapiens on Alien Day just to see what sort of reaction the potential buyers had to it. They may be going back to the drawing board based on the ridiculous overreactions. :(

This theory is based on thinking they actually care what people think about it of course, which may not be the case. :D

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I kinda don't mind the sculpted hair. Rooted does look a bit more real, but no need to worry about it getting all poofy or ratty. Anything is better than the first iteration of Ripley from 2007!

Dunno, I think she looks pretty good though I'm sad about not getting the rooted hair. ...that said 'pretty good' is compared to other female figures in this hobby. Female figures are always way off - this one included - because they tend to make them way too feminine, pretty, skinny and 'sexy'. ...I really think that it's a problem, especially that we get so few different body types in this hobby - even for male figures but at least they get fat suits.
...and please don't answer 'sex sells'. We all know that - I just don't buy it. ;-)

Maybe the deluxe exclusive version can have rooted hair and the normal could have basic fugly sculpted hair

But as long as we buy them anyhow ;-) ...but yes, sometimes the complaining goes a bit far, but I guess that's due to the long waits. We need to talk about something right?

In 1979 we learned that in space no on can hear you tune. In 2016 we'll learn, on the internet, EVERYONE can hear you tune! :panic:

In this case though, they really do need a skinny buck for the figure.

Ripley was not exactly what you'd call 'pneumatic'.

Don't give them any ideas, they'll pull the first movie version and change it out for Alien3 bald Ripley....

So will the exclusive variant have the white tank and panties!

Agreed. Sadly even the prominent 1/6 Facebook groups have collectors that respond like crazy to it. I've seen so many Phicen body replacements (even where bustline is horrendously inaccurate) just to take scantily-clad photos. Black Widow's suit being zipped down lower than it's ever been onscreen, Pepper Potts sliding out of her pants, not to mention generic Phicen circle-jerkery. I'm willing to bet plenty more photos were taken that weren't Facebook-appropriate.
It's the kind of culture that spawns something as ridiculous as the Alien Girl. I still gag at the notion that she'll likely be released before a proper Ripley.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I almost don't want anything to come out from Hot Toys. I'm enjoying this thread far too much.

Almost!
