I'm still surprised people were slamming this sculpt way back when. Say what you will about the rooted hair, but the upper eyelids were much more prominent and greatly helped the likeness.

That's the one area where the final sculpt could use some improvement. They seem to have gotten rid of her eyelids entirely.

Apart from that, I'm happy with it. Spent the last ten minutes looking at photos from the 1979 production and, while her eyelids were definitely more prominent, her overall 'look' seemed to change depending on angle and light, much like this figure. This is likely the best we're going to get, especially for economic reasons.

Will place my order come morning. In the words of Alien 3's Morse: "____ it! Let's go for it!"

Absolutely right. They ****ed with it until they broke it. This one also had the closest bone structure too.

I will admit that I never conceived the idea of Ripley in my collection. It was only when HT revealed their second “rooted hair” incarnation that I took some interest. Then a year or so later when she was revealed in preorder with sculpted hair the likeness took me a step back as it appeared to be taken into the “generic zone”.

As the production images have been revealed today I will admit that I’m not blown away with “WOW” but rather “it ‘ OK”. At this point I am happy that we finally have production images and am excited to seeing the next step in the process Youtube unboxing. There is still some time before Ripley will be available to North America so in that time I will see if I’m still interested. It is important to note that a good portion of the attraction I have to Ripley is the accessories. There’s no denying that there is more here then were used to in “current releases”. Also adding the sculpted diorama base (which I don’t have from Big Chap) and the direction HT is moving today with printout cards.

Looking back on it, I just didn't like the rooted hair but this likeness was the best they did in the many revisions that were shown.

John Matrix's final paint likeness and paint was garbage in comparison to the press shots but you could clearly still tell it's Arnie... but this one might be the worst final sculpt they've put out this decade.

I kinda like it. Not sure if I like it enough to buy it, but I think it is an overall improvement over the previous batch of promo images.

When did Jonesy become one of those freakish hairless cats? :lol

Overall, pleased this was finally released. looks like they went through about 4 different headsculpts. They added shirt snaps and appear to have corrected the watch face, that's good, still forgot her upper eyelids, not good, but it's good enough for a $180 figure IMO, which is what I ended up paying with RPs.

Bring on the Power Loader! :lol

Surprising no one, Hot Toys puts out another generic looking female sculpt. I will say I think it looks more like Sigourney from Alien than the recent Jyn figure looks like Felicity Jones, so I guess there is that. I, too, will probably just play the waiting game on this one and see if I can get it under $200 at some point.

Jonesy looks like some kind of genetic lab experiment.

It's a shame because detailing on female faces is a bit of a subtle art. That subtlety will always get lost in the final production pieces due to the recasting process.

But yeah, this Ripley headsculpt looks flat like the others (Rey for example), but it's still alright. Probably not keen to pay full price for it though.

Finally...

I do not have this on preorder, but I do plan to pick her up on ebay.

I will be happy to have the only 1/6th incarnation of a 1979 "A L I E N" Ripley that's ever going to be made. She's a nice accessory for my Alien. She was never going to be anything more than that.

HONESTLY, that is what i was told by Sideshow during a live chat 2 weeks ago.
The operator told be she also had the figure on order but said because i ordered mine from the start it would be sent directly from their HK warehouse.

If I receive mine looking like this then i'd be VERY HAPPY, she looks incredible :

Really? I PO'd mine on 5/9/16 but I"m relegated to Oct/Nov shipment. Wonder if I call them and ***** at them if they can ship from HK direct?

Figure looks good so am excited....about time though...
