Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Yeah, it would. :rock

Seriously, how come movies like this - great sci-fi/action flicks with a hard R - don't get made anymore?

It's a lost art. We have to have sexually appealing actors, with quick and to the point plots, with snarky, quirky, hip dialogue with tons of CGI. Instead of good actors and amazing set/costume designs, with edgy plot lines that actually distance you from reality. I feel that this died after T2.

Blame Hollywood's bean counters. They will argue a lower rating means a larger potential viewership at the box office. Also, it's less likely to be controversial or offensive to some regarding language, violence etc. The fact that a heavily sanitised movie is more likely to be a load of crap, is not their concern.

The Robocop remake is a perfect example. The original was pretty violent back in the day. Murphy's death was particularly brutal, but it meant the audience connected with the character much more and we shared his pain. We cheered when those responsible were brought to justice.

The remake used a car bomb and it had no emotional resonance whatsoever. Consequently, the remainder of the film seemed un-involving.

Yeah I agree. I thought the remake of Robocop sucked. There were no moments which were memorable and stuck in the mind long after viewing like the original had. Think also of all the great lines in the original. It is such a perfect sci fi flick mixing political satire and social commentary with action and sci fi. After watching the remake I just needed to pop in the original and re-watch it again just to get the bad taste out of my mouth and remind myself what a superior film it is in every way.

Just saw the revised headsculpt for this, and wow, huge improvement. I had no interest in this figure before, but now I'm starting to reconsider.

Although ideally when it comes to that first movie I'd rather have a Kane in the spacesuit.

I'm hoping that this Spooktacular Sideshow thing gives us the preorder for Ripley, seems like the best time.

Between this, Alien:Iso being my game of the year, and getting the Alien minimates, I've been on a binge lol.

Plus, their concern is no longer strictly an American-based audience. They think globally now. And simple plots with pretty people translates across borders especially in poorer places where escapism reins.

But give it time; global tastes will tire just like we did.

Well put. :clap

It definitely seems to be their default template, but there's always the inevitable renaissance.. hopefully it happens soon. :lol

Out of everything Hot Toys revealed at ComicCon the Ripley figures are almost the only things that haven't gone up for preorder. Come on!!!!

We all were clamoring for the Arkham City Batman, so Hot Toys gave us the Arkham City Batman. HT listens to the people. :lecture

Good enough for a poke.

A real Ripley. Not that crappy no likeness rights figure. Keaton Batman looks amazing so this is no comparison.

Oh great, Hot Toys just unveiled another Wolverine.

At least it wasn't something absolutely useless like Extra Hat Iron Man mk VII.
