Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

People hate Titanic because of a macho need to not like Celine Dion and because teenage girls loved it therefore it must be crap. But it was a great film. Even Avatar was great entertainment albeit not something that needs the planned 15 sequels.

Look - the story, it's a good one. The director - legendary. The production values - obviously no.1.

I like Kate Winslet as an actress fine, & I like Billy Zane. The Silly-Indian soundtrack - not phased by it.

It's just.. ehh, I don't know. Like I said, I've never really liked Cappy, & it's a pretty long film with having to watch his mug in it for most of it.

Wotevz. :lol

So you didn't jump on board the Dicaprio revolution? He had a McConnaissance before it was cool :lol

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

It was a remake of that movie... so pretty direct.

DiCaprio and McConahoweveryouspellit are alright in my book.

I worked at a movie theater when Titanic came out--so that movie can go to hell.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Every 11-16 year old within 30 miles came and saw that movie every weekend night it was out--and it was out for months. Plus, hearing that damn Celine Dion song dozens of times a day will make anyone hate that movie.

I guess that explains the results of the psycho test. :lol Only kidding. :monkey3

You at least got to check out some cute girls, huh?

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I think Abyss was the last huge leap for Cameron. Aliens was a huge leap in skill for Cameron from Terminator. And Abyss was an even larger jump for his ability and talent. I remember being so impressed with his growth over three movies back then. T2 really felt like he had settled in or peaked as it were. And True Lies felt like a step back.

Very good assessment! I felt the same way.

Perhaps this is the silly musing of a fanboy. But it felt like Cameron was one of us up until T2 and True Lies. Then we got Titanic and that was it. :(

Yeah, I've got abandonment issues.

:rotfl

Wow. I can't believe I've finally come across a couple of people who think that too! :lol

i'm with Giamontan on this one: it's a great movie to see once. Seeing it that second time for me was like taking off a giant set of beer goggles the morning after bedding what you thought was a really hot chick.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I thought Titanic was horrendously long and super cheesy when I first saw it. Cool ship sinking shots. That's about it. The rest is pure corn.

But hey, so was Avatar -- and they're the two biggest grossing films of all time. :lol

Funny thing is, no is watching them again.

Avatar was a decent movie but a real flash in the pan. No one really talks about it anymore. Has anyone else noticed that?
