Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Yeah, I don't get that either. Nobody's asking for access to their deepest, darkest corporate secrets. I don't see how it would hurt them (or any company) to let fans know whether a product is still in their active pipeline.

I really want both Ripley figures, and I do believe they'll both still happen. Eventually. But if the plug gets pulled, I would respect them a hell of a lot more if they just told us, rather than keep mum and hope we just forget we ever saw them.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

The HT approach reminds me a lot of the little kid approach - if you break a lamp, hope nobody notices.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

My problem when they announce or reveal and no activity for a year is how much the price will increase over time. An example if Batman Returns was released in Q4 2012 it would have cost us $220. Today it looks like it might pass $300. You see I don't mind waiting I just hate paying........more!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

HT have us by the balls and they know it (as un PC as that expression may be :lol). It's not like they haven't done this before.

Perhaps that's exactly it. They make a prototype to see what it will ultimately cost to manufacture and what their profit margin is... and sometimes it's higher than they like so they simply wait until prices rise to the point where it makes sense.

As an example: Let's say Ripley only makes sense for them at $299. But this simple figure isn't at that price range yet. In two more years, it will be and then it's likely they would release her, assuming there's still interest and you guys are still here nashing on about her.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

It hasn't even been a year yet. How long have people been waiting for TWD with ThreeZero?

Chan does do interviews now and then so maybe who's ever in charge of those should ask about this figure. We did hear afterall about the MJ Smooth Criminal figure being axed because he was asked about it.

HT are not going to rush figures from films from the 70's and 80's considering we've already waited this long. They have to quickly produce the Marvel figures asap as the interest will wane as soon as the next film comes along.

I think people are panicking way too early.

There was a Q and A in December. They asked about Batman Returns.

"No plans for Catwoman and Penguin, Batman may be coming sooner than you think!"

Q and As don't mean a thing. Just more HT PR talk.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm no MJ fan so I wasn't paying all that much attention to it... but I recall it took years after the initial teaser before Chan finally confirmed the axing of the Smooth Criminal figure.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Hot Toys has to be the worst when it comes to customer interaction. They need to start posting details about stuff on Facebook. Let us know what's up..

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

...
If it's delayed for an extended period of time, tell people. What are you gaining by not doing so? What is the advantage, business or otherwise?

Well, maybe if you know when a certain figure is released, you wouldn't buy the current one they are selling...
I think that is their reasoning.

Eh not really. Most companies don't give out details in advance about an unofficially announced product. If anything a lot of times when consumers ask questions they may get a generic reply to check back soon or something. Hot Toys showed a prototype and said the figure is coming soon but they didn't give a firm date so it isn't delayed. They'll announce details when it meets their time table to do so. Makes more sense than just throwing a random time out about when a figure will be available and not being able to meet that date.

Hmmm, maybe someone should ask about Elias from Platoon. Lets put that one to bed officially at last.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

The Jackson Estate being uber protective about their IP & Michael's legacy, is a far cry from licensed Tim Burton Batman film stuff.

Two different things.

I called Howard up this morning and put the question to him. He said, "Hot Toys fans can expect some very exciting announcements in the next three months!"

So there you have it. Straight from Howard himself.

I have Taylor and Barnes and I'm just waiting on Elias. Waiting and waiting and waiting.....

Such a shame. Barnes in particular is a fantastic figure. All it needed was one more figure. **** sake.

Any day now. Any day now...

SDCC is a fairly obvious announcement that they have the figure in development. They should keep us up to date on how the figures are going. Not too much different from what Asmus are doing.

I'm also a Blu-ray steelbook collector, from some amazing companies in China and South Korea, and in comparison to them, HT isn't that great in that area of business. Hell, one of the companies is a two man operation and they have the best customer interaction and service I've ever seen.

If HT shows Ripley again at this year's Comic Con, hope is still very much alive.
