I think that's the key point, this isn't a tweaking of the original headsculpt, it is clearly a whole new sculpt. Hair, eye shape and position, mouth...ect are all different.

It isn't a terrible headsculpt, but not also not remarkable either. False advertising to be sure from the prototype, which we can see was not intented to reflect the actual product but to get pre-sales up.

For people that buy 150 1/6 figures, I am sure this is good enough. For those with collections sub 50 figures, we might feel cheated.

I no longer pre-order figures anymore, so not a big concern anyways.

There's been a definite mismanagement of expectations with this one and I certainly won't be rolling the dice on pre-orders anymore (unless it's limited release item like Neon Tech).

To be honest i see faults in everything i own. House could be better, vehicles could be better, food could be better, Phone, tv, computer, healthcare, airline i fly and every single one of my figures could be better.

These are made by humans and i don't expect perfection from anything made by one of us. 5 million dollar cars are not perfect, 200 million dollar jets designed by the best minds are not perfect. I just cannot pass on something I THINK is cool because others who i will never see find a fault.

Like i said earlier one of my favorite Cap figures is the Rescue Cap. I got it when i just started collecting and on release it got the same hate this is getting. So i panicked and canceled my order. Then people got in him hand and loved it so i took a chance and bought it and it is the one Captain America figure i would never sell. The figure OVERALL is just amazing to me the HS is not up to todays standards but i would keep it over Yondu (and i think Yondu is the best HT has done).

I collect a figure because of how much i enjoyed the film, I how much i like the charcter, what scene(s) does the figure portray, what accessories does it come with, how does the outfit look, and does it have a likeness to the actor. I mainly collect IM/Stark figures (over a 3rd of my collection) and most of the HS that came with those look NOTHING like RDJ (some real warts with his HS :lol) but it doesnt take away from my enjoyment of the figures overall.

I agree the stand is cheap and agree you should not buy anything you feel cheated on but i just think the HS is normal HT work. Not Yondu great but not Luke bad. I really hated the outfit on this one until it was released. i thought it was to smooth and did not have the cool detail of the 1st but it's slowly moved me onto the other side of the fence.

Anyway it's really not a big deal (1st world problems) buy and collect what you like and skip what you don't as long as your having fun. I am.:duff

It's clear we have different standards when it comes to our requirements for likeness and quality.

I agree with you that the earlier RDJ head sculpts were not good. In fact, I was very vocal about HT re-using the old, inaccurate head sculpt when they put out Mk V Diecast, however the overall quality of the figure was still top-notch and the fact that you can display the figure with the Iron Man portrait made the outdated RDJ sculpt a nonissue.

My biggest beef with BP 2.0 is that I intended on making the purchase solely based on the prototype images of the the Chadwick sculpt because I already own CW BP, so I wanted a figure that I could use to display him unmasked. Also, I know a lot of people prefer the visual look of CW BP's mask and suit over the 2.0 version, so for me it wasn't really pressing to get another suit that is, in my opinion, inferior in terms of aesthetic. The purchase hinged all on the head sculpt. So for HT to advertise a stellar, HD-quality sculpt and then put out something that is reduced in its quality to the point where it's an SD sculpt, that to me is unforgivable...it's honestly false advertising.

In the end I will eventually get over this like I did with IW Cap, but HT really needs to step up their game in terms of CONSISTENT quality, otherwise they will start to lose business. They've certainly lost out on 2 potential sales from me because of the quality downgrade. But alas when it's all said and done, I will agree with you that this is all just first-world problems. :lol

Gmoney, spend your Black Panther funds on that Retro Sneaky. There's no headsculpt to ****** up and they went the extra mile in terms of quality - for example the articulated hands have painted joints - unlike any other IM figure (as far as I know).

I've got 9 Iron Men including 4 DC and its my favourite by miles. You owe it to yourself... :)

Usually I'm pretty calm about the Release Panic Cycle, no cancelling, waiting to see in-hand etc.

This time I perceived an unusually steep drop in both likeness and detail, total turn-off. I've since seen subsequent videos where the drop is still bad but not as soft detail-wise, so I've decided to eat my words and follow my original plan to view it in-hand.

If it still sucks in-hand, I'll sell it on and admit my error. There are other figures I've bought and been underwhelmed with for whatever reason, either immediately or over time, and I had no issue biting the bullet and eating losses on shipping or whatever.

I don't know when mine comes in, but I'll be sure to give you an unbiased opinion when it does.

Taking one for the team, maybe. Ow.

You seem very adamant about me getting the Retro Sneaky...what's your angle here my friend...? :dunno

Well that's admirable of you to keep your preorder even though you're underwhelmed by it and might even lose some money as a result.

Let me help you in your decision making once you receive your inferior BP 2.0 in-hand.

This is what we were promised, look at that crisp, HD-quality sculpt they mislead us into thinking we would be getting....you can use this as a comparison shot to the SD downgrade, Marge Simpson-hair turd you end up receiving.

Best of luck with your decision to keep him or not, but to me, the photos/videos of the final product available online are enough for me to pass on this travesty. If I was a betting man, I'd be inclined to say you'll end up getting rid of him...I look forward to your decision! :wave

They don’t promise you will get an item that looks just as good as the prototype. In fact I think all these manufacturers specially warn people to expect some differences.

The Finn sculpt was a good indication that Hot Toys still cannot translate that type of hair, which looks great and ridiculously sharp in the protos, onto the production sculpts.

No excuse on whatever issue the rest of the sculpt might have but it looked decent to me in some of those initial blogger shots.

Sure, I can accept the fact that a prototype can and will differ from the final product...but to use that disclaimer as a blanket excuse for a blatant downgrade in quality and likeness is just flat-out lying and false advertising.

But, but that line about "individual differences" - used for poly statues - IMO crosses into blatant false advertising. And there's been some pretty hefty backlash too. Finn had more problems than hair.

To me this looks like the same sculpt - but it was output like a KO, losing the sharp details, and with KO-type production paint too. Look how large the irises of the proto eyes are - and in production there is a lot of white showing. The beard is different. The hairline is too sharp.

If the average HT sculpt goes for $50-$85 then that's what HT should knock off from the price.

But at least this release you get a mask and switchouts. HT won't be able to hide Bucky and Shuri sculpts.

Every new review that pops up on YouTube I see of this version and the comparison to the CW version, they really improved this BP by leaps and bounds

Anybody know when this hits the states yet

LOL...! I remain well aware of the prototype. I still feel there was a sharper than usual production drop-off, but curiosity got the better of me. Just have to see for myself.

I'd love to be wrong, so...the dice are rolled!

(Yeah ... I'm crazy -- crazy like a snake!) :banana

(...or a dancing banana)

Man this sculpt is awesome. Good detail and likeness to Chadwick.

Given how you feel about false advertising, Retro Sneaky should be the last figure you'd buy. The suit loses most of its stealthiness/sneakiness when it's painted bright red and gold. :lol

Well the name is misleading...but the suit and paint app does look great!

Although my real issue is do I break my rule and purchase versions that never appear on screen? If I passed on Concept Cap I think I have the willpower to pass on Retro Sneaky...

Yeah, I was super amped for this release due to the prototype headsculpt we were shown...looks like HT did a switch-a-roo and actually showed us the FINAL product first and then ended up releasing the PROTOTYPE instead. :slap

Not happy in hand. What a disappointment. :gah:

But, but...it's the lighting's fault!!! Haha, the lighting conspiracy theorists need a better excuse.

The sculpt is TRASH.

Thanks for your review, sorry you're disappointed. A lot of us are. :thud:
