Got mine and have him displayed without his robe and with the CW gauntlets. Pretty happy I kept this figure as it looks great next to CW Anakin and Ahsoka...

And I agree, I don’t think it’s that bad of a likeness like some are making it seem. I really think rolling eyes would’ve been the game changer and if they gave him a much more intense expression because aside from that it’s pretty good, imo.

Opened mine up today and he’s fantastic. Sure, the likeness could have been better but is far superior to the original Sideshow figure. I’d say the likeness is of the the clone wars animated likeness turned realistic. Similar to how we didn’t have an actor likeness for the original Hot Toys clone wars Ahsoka, this is what we might have gotten (and been happy with) should we not have had a live action Mace to compare it to.

Idk, but I don’t see it or I simply don’t want to believe that’s what they did. Because why would they when we all know what the character looks like in live-action, how he looks like in AOTC, which the figure is primarily based on?

If that’s what they did, that’s an incredibly stupid (imo) decision…

Just another "okay" likeness from HT, no complicated or roundabout justifications needed.

They've missed the likeness bullseye more often than not with their SW line for its entire run, delivering middling likenesses on pretty much every human OT hero (including Ben and Lando, ANH Leia an exception.) PT generally has been a noticeable step up in likeness (all three heroes,) but they also missed the bullseye (and overscaled) to varying degrees every Vader, stormtrooper and Boba Fett helmet.

This SLJ is a little weaker than HT's previous fine-to-okay SLJ sculpts, but they always make up for it majorly with those 10/10 lifelike paint apps or finishes on faces and helmets. You get a little "living person" in an instantly recognizable costume so the likeness at 7/10 or so is less of an issue (or just use this head for a mid-1990s Dave Chappelle with equal success... )

He's on the way for me. This latest round of shots is raising my confidence on this figure - looking good! (That set from Hyperdrive is especially jaw-dropping)

I've had the SSC one still on display. As seen in some comp shots above, it actually isn't bad. It's just sunk by the bad paint apps so many SSC were saddled with back in the day, but the old portrait actually isn't much "worse" than folks are saying this new release is. The HT portrait looks typical for them to me. The right tilt, the right light, the right angle on display it it works okay.

I've wanted an upgrade to Mace for a long time, so I'm looking forward to his arrival. Fingers crossed the bad QC issues I just dealt with on the Padme figure are not present with this release.
