1991...yikes! You sound like one of those guys that says they haven't watched Saturday Night Live since John Belushi left.
Or the last of his kind?
Following on from my previous post, and tying back to the Star Wars Weekly comic...
I remember buying the first Star Wars comic at the newsagent on the way home from infant school as if it were yesterday. It's funny how certain memories stick so sharply.
I went into the shop to buy the local paper for my parents as I always did on the way home. And before I stepped over that threshold I hadn't even heard of a film called Star Wars. But there was an excitement in the shop, with kids talking about the comic and the film. Intrigued, I spent the newspaper money on the comic instead of the newspaper. And got told off when I got home, because money was really short back then.
After the telling off I read the comic, all the while feeling guilty!
And that was how my fascination with Star Wars began.

Its like Jack and the bean stock selling the cow for beans!
That's a tragic story.
My first sighting of something called 'Star Wars' was a 'Scholastic" magazine in early 1977 that had a single image -- the sandtrooper on Dewback. It looked really cool but I thought this was some 'Star Trek' kind of thing and dismissed it.
Several months later, my grandfather hands me a Time magazine article of the movie. I'm a little tyke and couldn't read that kind of newspaper jargon, but I stared at the pictures in the 4-page spread for hours with fascination trying to absorb this really strange world of wizards, pirates, spaceships and magic... and this awesome black villain whom I thought was an alien (didn't realize that was an iron mask). The X-wing held special fascination for me. A few weeks later, my grandfather allowed me to ditch school so we could drive to the Chinese theater in Hollywood to see "Star Wars" (about 30 miles away at that time). I don't think I was ever the same after that experience. I didn't say a word all the way home; still lost in the visions of a galaxy far, far away.
I still have that Time magazine.
Now that makes you a real veteran.
I have been there since the very beginning.
So I wonder if this will go up this week. I expected Jyn release week but obviously we already got her last week. I'll probably cave if it's put up for pre-order.

That's a pretty awesome story. It's cool you kept that magazine.
My experience was being sick for a family cookout in 1995 or so at my uncle's house. We were there all day, so my aunt took out the original VHS trilogy set and I watched all 3 movies in one sitting. It was glorious and I would never be the same. They still have that set too, and its in perfect condition. I kinda want to watch them again to see the original cuts.
Snatch those VHS copies and hold them dear. They are relics of another time. That might be the last VHS version of the trilogy set to tape before the Lucas tinkering began. It's also the last way you're likely to see the original Fox fanfare with the simplified Lucasfilm logo...
After the 3 movies were over were you not sick anymore?
Y'all need to get Harmy's Despecialized Editions on Bluray
